Nothing makes me happier than outlets misjudging the Giants and taking them for granted. We usually fail when expected to be great, and we do much better when the media underestimates us. I'm happy with that release

Ouch! Definitely not something that we want to hear.

But... at the end of the day, those are just another person's predictions and they carry as much or as little weigh as we allow them to.

I dunno, guys, I'm getting a bad feeling about this season. I was in the "8 or 9 wins" camp going into training camp but now, less than 6 feels very believeable. 

The OL, while improved, is STILL unsettled!

I know Jones is still scrapping off the rust but he doesn't appear anywhere near ready for the season. Seems like mediocre is the best we can hope for.

Great as our receivers are supposed to be, they aren't getting any separation!  Certainly not as much as opposing receivers are getting against us, because....

Our secondary is a mess! People are WIDE open!  Even Banks is struggling.

And God forbid we get hit with injuries, because our depth has been exposed when playing against other team's depth.

There just doesn't seem to be any spark, any energy bursting out of this team. 

4-13, drafting in the top three feels more likely than eight wins does to me right now.  Sorry.

To be frank, the only way I see the OP being true is:

(1) A barrage of injuries at least as bad (and probably worse) than last season. Like if Jones, Thibodeaux, Burns, Thomas, Eleumenor, and Nabers are all hurt let's say, then sure, we can win 5 or less.

(2) If the QB is just so bad that we can't function as an offense. I have said many times that I don't think Jones is nearly as bad as played last season. But he's coming off a major injury, and he had a mixed camp and a rough preseason game (I put very little stock in his performance against 2s and 3s, the part that mattered for me was the part against starter). Plus he was simply very bad last year before getting hurt. So there is more than justified cause for concern with our QB position. With that said, I think Jones is capable of being much better than last year and what we saw against the Texans' ones last weekend, so hopefully he will be.


Apart from the above though, I'm pretty optimistic. I expect our line to be somewhat (if not significantly) better, I think we'll have our best pass rush in years, and I think Nabers is a true monster who will be a game changer for the offense. I think there are plenty of positives. I have us winning 6 to 8 games (base case 7 with some mild upside).

I agree with all the above. What is not being considered by any of us is the competition they will face this season. Is it stronger than last year? Weaker? We just don't know.

I'd take the bet against it happening.

I agree. Just one opinion, but it is a Fantasy football ranking that pulls together the predictions of several to arrive at an opinion.
 
There is some reason for early optimism. The Giants open up against the worst rushing Defense in the NFL in 2023 (Vikings), followed by the worst passing defense in 2023 (Redskins).  The Vikings had to rebuild their entire Defensive Line and LBs core. After spending Halloween 2023 trading away their DL assets, the Commanders put most of their off-season resources into their Offense and signed some older players (Bobby Wagner) and high promise cast-offs from the rest of the league. I don't see how the Commanders are any better than last year but Dan Quinn should help.

We will know after Week 2 if the Giants offense can at least beat the teams they are supposed to beat.

SI#1: Fix the damn offensive line
SI#2: Close the gap between your two key divisional rivals (DAL & PHI)
SI#3: Improve 2024 Lost Man-Games due to Injury metric vs. 2023

That's all they have to do, no predictions required, and they'll be better than last season.

Having somewhat more competent O line play AND an above average pass rush will be steps in the right direction this year, assuming both of those things happen. They won't solve all of our problems, but both are fundamental cornerstones of playing winning football, and both have been absent from our organization for years.

Let's see if those two components are there this year. If they are, we should be better than last year, not worse.

Stopping the run is another thing we were horrible at last year. I don't know if we'll get better there. My hope is that the addition of Burns and better ILB play besides Okereke will contribute to this.
