SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

Rosehill Jimmy

Died way too young.  He had so many great quotes but my favorite remains the one he delivered the first time he addressed his Packers team in 1959.

Gentlemen, today we begin our relentless pursuit of perfection.  It is not attainable but if we chase perfection we will catch excellence

Bart Starr said the hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he listened that day and he knew then that GB had found their coach

Lombardi will always be the gold standard.....and ANOTHER example of how this organization is always a day late....still to this day.

1958.   Packers win  ONE game despite a roster of 13 future All Pro and HOF players on the roster.

1959.  Lombardi's first year a winning record of 7 - 5.

1960.  Lose the NFL Championship on the road to Eagles 17 - 13.  Lombardi tells his players after game we will NEVER lose another Championship game.   They don't.

1961.  Ugh.  If you are a real Giants fan you know what goes here.

Lombardi and Landry   Oh what could have been with a progressive organization, not a good old boy front office and owners.
Mike

Jimmy: Many thanks for posting this.

It shows how important leadership is to performance/success of any group endeavor (like a sports team).

The best personnel doesn't always win, and that's the chief reason why the vast majority of coaches are drawn to coaching. They KNOW it's possible for a coach to make a huge difference.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

A very good friend of mine is the HC at a school in the MAC.  One of his favorite sayings is " no one rises to low expectations". Wherever he's been his players loved playing for him because he always set the bar high whether his roster was stacked or somewhat lacking

While I get your point there are different ways you can look at "what could have been"
We keep Lombardi, Landry or both maybe LT never plays for the Giants or Parcells and BB maybe coach somewhere else.
I am quite satisfied with how things played out through NFL history. We have our issues like all organizations do but our Gmen stack up pretty well with the rest of the NFL teams. We could be the Jets:)
