I take it as Jones isn't the future.

Possibly, although one could have said the same thing when Schoen was scouting QBs in 2022

In fairness, there were plenty saying that. Some felt otherwise.

I imagine it would make a GM weary to not have a bonafide, set it and forget it QB under contract.  And jealous of his fellow GMs that are in that position.  Talk about a ton of time and energy freed up to improve the team in other ways.

Weary is not a word which should appear in Joe Schoen's or any GM's job description.

Cheers!

The more I see and hear from Schoen, the less I am impressed. I think his handling of the DJ replacement strategy has been terrible.Blatantly "telling" him that you are looking for his replacement is something that I can't imagine any other GM in the league doing.

For those still working, how would you feel if your boss was looking for your replacement? And publicly stated he was doing so? The whole situation is being handled terribly. Total disregard for other's feelings is not an admirable trait for any leader.

As oppose to what, not telling him and doing it behind his back?  Now he knows his butt is on the line.

I'd rather see the bullet coming at me than get shot in the back.

Why would he think otherwise based on his performance and injury history?

Jones knew way before Schoen said it on hard knocks that his ass was on the line. I imagine the moment he got injured he knew it.

I think there are two ways of looking at this. You can look at it negatively, as you have done, and that's a viable opinion.

Another way of looking at it might be that Schoen was transparent with Jones and wanted to get ahead of any rumors spreading, which they frequently do in today's overly loquacious world. You could argue he was looking out for his feelings in doing that. Hearing that your boss is looking for your potential future replacement through the grapevine is a lot more humiliating and unsettling than having your boss look you in the eye and tell you what's going on directly to your face.

Frankly, if I'm Jones, I'd rather my GM be a stand-up straight shooter with me than have everything be clandestine and have him not looking me in the eye when he talks to me, and then hear things from other people and not know if they're true or not. It's actually not even close for me.

Now is the time for Daniel Jones to step his game up and make it all a moot point. The ball is in his court, so to speak.

He has to step up and consistently perform at a high level. Injuries and poor performance from other players on offense aren't going to obscure the lack of excellent game tape.

This is year 6. Cut the b.s. and ball out. He has to overcome all obstacles and put 17 weeks of great QB play on tape. If that doesn't happen Schoen is going to exercise his out and find himself a new QB.

Lucky for him he didn't say anything like that.  I don't know where this 'weary' notion came from.  I read his comment in that clip as meaning that it's nice when your QB situation is settled and your scouting and player evaluation can focus on other positions.  When you are potentially looking for a QB the importance of the position draws an out-sized focus and effort compared to other positions.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

I didn't view it as being weary. He's envious, if anything - the Bears are set at QB for the next 2-3 years, if not longer than that.

Why wouldn't he be envious?

It's funny that even at the GM level, there are assumptions being made.  The Bears MAY be set at QB for the next 10 years, assuming that Caleb Williams pans out.  The Panthers thought they wouldn't have to consider QB for the next ten years when they drafted Bryce Young 1st overall.

Sorry, but comparing a regular person 9 to 5, to a critical position on a professional sports team in the NY market, when the guy has been horrifically bad at it for years, is not a valid comparison to me.
