Two glaring examples why Jones is an awful quarterback. In the first clip the Giants are in a two tight end formation. The inside tight end is running a deeper out and the outside tight end is running a shorter out. Nabers on the same side is running a clear out. From the snap to the time he releases the ball Jones is staring at the inside tight end the entire time. It was so obvious where he was going with the ball that the db covering the out gave up on his responsibility even before Jones started his throwing motion and tried to jump the route leaving his man wide open for an easy first down. Because the guy covering Nabers saw the same thing he ended up wide open deep. To compound that mistake Jones throws a miserable pass that was low and behind for an incompletion.

On the second play the Vikes are blitzing from Jones left. He sees the blitz and shifts the protection and his hot read is a tight end on the crossing route. He ends up holding the ball far too long and when he throws it that pass is behind and low.

These are things that should be easy for a six year vet to see and take advantage of but he can't. No amount of scheming or personnel can save Jones from himself. I'm not buying the whole he's rusty excuse. Those are mental reps that he could have been getting watching film while recovering. He's just a bad NFL quarterback with a big contract. It's time for Dabs to grow a spine and bench him.

I think his only hope, like the blind squirrel last year, is that they fall behind 0-20 next week and then, in the second half, the entire team realizes they're playing in a real game where the bullets are flying and they do the "Team formerly known as the Redskins" what they did last year out here to the "Team formerly known at the St. Louis (Football) Cardinals."

Has a blind squirrel found the acorn twice?

Both throws were off-target.

Nevertheless, I disagree with Doug Farrar about the first throw.

On the other hand, I agree with him about the second one.

On that first play, had he pumped to the inside TE and hit Nabers instead, it's a pitch and catch TD.

I hope @Trench doesn't see this  ;)  :P

Sorry but locking on to one receiver and starring at him to the point two other defenders abandon their coverage is awful. The tight end on the shorter route was wide open and the only man between him and the end zone was Nabers man. With a solid throw that's either a touchdown or a 30 yard gain instead of an incompletion.

madb: Jones' error was neither staring down his eventual target nor his choice of a receiver.  The error was in the timing of the throw, just as it was in the second example, which Farrar IMO described correctly. Bob

Nah, they will win this week.  He always turns into an all-pro against Washington.

Seems the acorns do pop up during (Team former known as) Redskin week, don't they?

Maybe I should have used the clock analogy of being correct twice in one day? I'll have to go back into my Henny Youngman book of one-liners to come up with something more creative.

Peace!

😂😂😂....ive been told by my friends here that locking onto a receiver is overrated and not really a big deal. I think this and the other video I spoke about earlier today proves otherwise. Again my frustration is not that he does it...the frustration is I RARELY if ever see him PRACTICING it.

I'm still gonna root like hell for Jones next week. Prove us all wring kid!!!....i saw a video of people pestering the poor guy as he was leaving and I felt it was in bad taste. Dont kick a guy when he's down. That's why Parcells always used to go right back to a receiver after he dropped a ball. I also wanna see Daboll light him up. Get in his face!...nothing else has worked. Do the Simms/Parcells stuff. Get Jones to show some fire and see what happens.

coggs: IMO the Giants can only go to that "well" so many times without coming up empty.

I'm not sure we'll beat them on the road this year (although hope springs eternal for us old-timers).

Our numbers are dwindling but the contingent of Giants fans who've lived through WORSE is still sizeable.

The NJ Giants need a QB -- any half-way decent starting QB -- to fill out their roster.

End of discussion, as far as I'm concerned.

Go, Big Blue!

Trench: Your friends are right (and wrong). Depends on the play, game situation and a few other factors. The two plays featured in this thread are timing plays (and Jones delivered the ball late both times, IMO). Bob

Yes, but the entire league knows to just watch his eyes because they know the play is going there

There was a very telling play to me where the Vikings MLB (or WLB, can't recall precisely) set up basically over the RG. Ball is snapped, clearly a pass play. LB starts to get depth. As soon as Jones hits his back foot, his eyes go are still pinned to his left (LB's right) and the LB immediately plants and crosses from weak side to strong side and gets a PBU. It was a good deal of distance for him to cover and not a play you would normally expect him to make. In fact, it's somewhat risky for him to immediately abandon his responsibility when he thought he had a read. But he was right. Because the book is out on Jones and he is not a processor--not even close--but instead a one-read QB (as he has been his entire career).

It's small. It's one play. But I saw a LB cover far more ground than he normally could and break up one of Jones's few decent passes because it was trivial for him to figure out what he needed to do and where he needed to be. DJ and his fundamental inability to be a dynamic passer (not running quarterback) made that LB play far faster than he could otherwise.

To me, that's where we are. DJ can't help his guys play up because he lacks anticipation and shows no sign of ever being able to throw guys open. And even more frustratingly, he simplifies things for defenses because he is a predictable, one-read QB.

I'm still waiting for Jones to use that to his advantage. A QB who knows the D is keying on his eyes, at a crucial time in a game, can intentionally stare down the wrong WR & make a big play to a different guy. Bob
