"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

A fifth-round draft choice by Minnesota in 2021, Smith-Marsette has played in 33 games with one start across his career with the Vikings (2021-22), Bears (2022), Chiefs (2022-23) and Panthers, who released him at the end of August.

In 17 games with Carolina last season, the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder returned 37 punts for 322 yards (8.7-yard average), including a 79-yard touchdown in Week 10 at Chicago. Smith-Marsette also scored on a 20-yard run for the Panthers in 2023.

Overall, Smith-Marsette's offensive numbers include 14 catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns (long of 44 yards) in addition to nine rushing attempts for 73 yards and the score.

A native of Newark, N.J., Smith-Marsette helped Weequahic High School claim the 2016 state championship with a 12-0 record. He went on to play at Iowa, where his 28.7-yard career average on kickoff returns ranked second all-time in the Big Ten. His 3,409 all-purpose yards also ranked 10th in program history.

Also mentioned was Slayton has a concussion. Let's hope Jalin gets more than one target this week.

I think he will if Slayton can't go. He's behind Malik and WanDale and the only way he's going to get more reps is to beat out Slayton.

If Slayton can't go the WR roster will be pretty barren.  You will have Ford-Wheaton as WR 4 and the guy just signed as a returner as WR 5

How often does a 5th Wr come into the game? I am old enough to remember when Hoss was the 5th WR and rarely had to come in.

Why can't Hyatt be a returned with his burning speed? Don't tell me he is too valuable at WR when he is not a starter.

Depends on injuries.  If everyone stays healthy, I don't see a lot of snaps.  If there is an injury or two, they could be substantial.

This is an off-the-cuff answer on Hyatt.  I don't believe he was a returner in college, nor did they have him practicing that in the preseason.

I missed this the first time (from Daboll's post-game presser).

Our punt returner (Gunner) was injured fielding a punt during warm-ups prior to the game.

This can only happen to the Giants.  Getting too old for "new lows." lol

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

This is what happens when you allow Ronnie Barnes to continue as VP of medical.

Dan,

If the coaches went against medical advise in activating Gunner for the game, then I would agree.

I'm talking about not having a replacement ON THE ROSTER as backup--instead we take up a   valuable roster spot with a kick returner

Agreed, it shouldn't have been that hard to groom a proper backup
