Given more time, will they produce a team that is a Super Bowl contender?

If an honest gap analysis was conducted, to identify the players, coaches and staff needed for the Giants to be contenders, and the "reasonable" amount of time it would take to do it, two questions inevitably surface:

1. Is it feasible to wait that long?

2. Is replacing the head coach and/or the GM identified in the gap analysis?

Even though this season has just started, a lot of questions are surfacing which lend credence to #2.

I believe the season needs to play out a bit more to see how the Giants compete against the wider cross-section of their schedule before making that determination.

I will say that yesterday was a lost opportunity and an indicator they are not a team ready to contend this season. They may not even be competitive this season either but that remains to be seen.

I think they stick around until they get a QB in the draft, and have at least 2 season with him to see how things look.

However, unless Bowen gets better, they need to figure out the defensive side of the ball ASAP as well.

If they signed him while there were other viable options at the time, then I would agree, but thats not the case.

My belief is that they were reluctant to sign him. It was done to appease Mara.

Building a SB contender starts in the trenches and the team needs a top 5 QB. They are both top priorities, 1A and 1B.

Daboll seems to have bitten off more than he can chew by taking over the play calling. It's taking him down in the weeds and he is missing the overall vision of the team. His bad decisions are piling up (along with the losses) and trying to fix the offense is coming at a price that may very well end up costing him his job.

I'd like to see Daboll at least get a shot at drafting and developing his own QB before they  pull the plug. Unfortunately with bonehead decisions like only dressing 52 and not elevating the practice squad kicker will be what gets him fired much faster then the losing. We've already been stuck in regime roulette every couple of years ever since Coughlin was fired. Hitting the reset button again just sets us back longer. New GM comes in purges the roster of the previous GM. Let Daboll pick his guy and give him a three year window.

I've been a big supporter of this idea of letting Schoen and Daboll have a run with their own QB. But Daboll's decisions of late are slowly eroding away at my support for him.

I am not sure where this assumption that Daniel Jones was their only option comes from

4 of the top 10 QBs by yards (admittedly after 2 games) were available to NYG

Baker Mayfield
Geno Smith
Sam Darnold
Gardner Minshew

All but Minshew are top 10 in QB rating and QBR

Schoen has one draft class that has reached the 3-year mark. It's not looking good at the top end (though I like Wan'Dale and Belton and McFadden are decent enough players). Unless we think we can evaluate players and how good they will be when they are in their sophomore and rookie campaigns, I have a tough time saying Schoen is unfit for the position.

Daboll... I'm open to moving on from him. I'm not convinced its the correct decision yet, but I can be. Also, I think the Giants job isn't very appealing if you can be a former COTY saddled with DJ as your QB and get canned. Going to be a tough sell. That shouldn't stop them from getting rid of him if that's what the situation demands, but I've been hearing "the grass is always greener" when people want to move on from DJ and I think that admonition would apply similarly here.

If the plan is to draft a QB this offseason then here is what I don't want:

They keep Daboll, draft a QB, the team stinks next year and they fire him.  Then a new HC and OC are brough in and the QB has to learn a new system. 

Like others, I have a lot of questions with Daboll and Schoen at this point.  We'll see how things look in 4-6 weeks with the schedule getting more difficult.

No, because they continue to do stupid things.  With so many glaring needs was it smart to use their number one pick on a flashy wide receiver?  This is why they remain in the same rut.

I don't know why everyone is being so tough on Daboll for. It would have been weird to dress 2 freaking kickers. He said he was good to go and, then got hurt trying to make a tackle of all things. That is on Daboll????

What would you have preferred them to use it on?

You don't think a rookie QB can benefit form someone like Nabers?

Nabers is the only reason the game yesterday was even competitive. He is the real deal.
