Apologies if there is another thread, I rarely make these. I have not been too impressed with the QB play this year in college thus far. Feels like we'll go QB in 2025, regardless. Seems a bit unfortunate, and typical that the following year is when Arch Manning will probably declare and we'll miss the better (potentially) of the up and coming QB prospects.

Not sure what the question is? Do we need a qb yes, are there question marks about this qb class, absolutely, and are there really great options in 2026/2027 ie Manning, Raiola, and Iamaleava, yes.

If you would like a deeper breakdown of guys coming out this coming offseason or other guys then I'll gladly break them down.

Would you be in favor of a stopgap for 2025 and then looking for a QB in the 2026 draft?
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

As it currently stands, I've wanted a new qb for forever and I would be in favor of either skipping qb in 2025 or grabbing a guy mid round 2025 ie Dart, Milroe, Moss in the late 2nd or 3rd if we knew that the odds of us getting the top pick in 2026 was high. Manning and Iamleava will go 1, 2 in 2026. I would love a stop gap ie Brissett etc, I was in favor of him back in the 2022 offseason when he was coming off the top 10 analytics with the Browns. I think a young qb would help us immensely but it has to be the right guy and not just a guy.

Don't want him.  Just like I didnt want Chris Simms when he was in college.

I haven't been overly fond of Arch in high school or in college so far. He'll win the Heisman on name recognition alone next year but yeah he's got a lot of work to do imo.

I'm extremely bullish on Arch. I know some disagree, but I think he has the whole package. I also think you can't put a price on the pedigree and caliber of direct mentoring he has gotten over many years from his uncles, grandfather, and even his father, who never played professional football due to medical reasons but was supposedly the best athlete of the three brothers.

Obviously all of the family stuff is not reason alone to like Arch as a pro prospect. I fully get that. He has to show he has it on the field. Based on what I have seen so far, I'd say the talent is there. Obviously, like any 21 year old, he has some developing to do. But personally, I envision him being a star at the next level. I would say my conviction level on that is as high as it could be for any QB with as little college tape as he has.

And I'm well aware I could be dead wrong, as could those who are down on him.

I agree with everything you are saying, he could be phenomenal. I was just down on his high school tape and thought he was overrated out of high school. Guys cam develop and if anyone can it should be a manning. Was just weird to me that Texas virtually begged Ewers back and paid him a dump truck when Manning is sitting their just waiting.

Players can make great leaps in college.  Dont write him off yet.

Totally fair Jess. I'm sure you've watched a lot more tape than I have, and I know you have a good eye.

Also, I will admit I like him and his family and want him to do well. That could be causing some confirmation bias in me.

Still, I believe what I wrote above. He has impressed me, and I think the upbringing stuff does matter to some degree.

I'm very aware these great highlights of his this year have been against cupcake competition. I want to see him look good against the likes of a top 20 or 30 defense. I also want to see him be consistent. We have not witnessed that yet at the college level. I think we will, but we haven't yet.

I'm optimistic about him but I definitely admit it's still fluid.

As we see with QBs
It's processing  what is going on
We should expect with his family help
He should be smart enough to recognize  what is going on

Once again, we delude ourselves into believing that we are in any way qualified to make judgements about the talent and future potential of QBs in the Draft. How many times do we have to be smacked in face by the reality of that when the professionals: GMs and HCs and/or a meddling Owner, often experience similar outcomes, year after year? Not to suggest that their conceits are anywhere near our levels.

That said, we should be free to pick a horse to ride, even if a bit rash at the moment, but then we ought to stick to it if we do. And if doesn't turn out well, we should own up to it without lame blaming someone or something else.

If you think differently, say so.

Cheers!

I just saw something that he is making his first start this weekend?  I guess it could have been an old post as I clicked away from it and when I tried to find it again, I could not.  If that is the case, are we annointing him a top qb for the draft BEFORE he even plays in college?

Am I crazy for thinking that a current middle of the pack NFL QB would do well in this Giants offense? The OLine seems fairly competent. Singletary is solid and our receiving corps gives a qb a lot of options.
The test of this will be to see how Jones' replacement will do when he gets benched or injured. I look at Lock and Cutlets competing for QB2 of the future. If it was up to me I'd bench Jones asap and hand the keys to DeVito. Lock just seems to be Jones all over again. DeVito is a kid who can learn the system and let players like Robinson and Nabers to make plays.
For these reasons I'd like to see what are the QB free agent options for this offseason.

His first start, yes but he played most of last Saturday's game subbing for the injured Quinn Ewers during which he threw 4 TD passes and ran 63 yards for another. The question now is not whether Arch Manning will be viewed as the top QB prospect in the 2026 Draft but rather will he now remain the starter if and when Ewers- a 1st Round-rated QB in the next Draft- is ready to return? Too soon to know or even guess.

Cheers!
