He's a good kid, stays out of trouble, works hard, good soldier.

HE IS A QB WITH NO ARM TALENT!

He has no touch, he can't throw an accurate long ball, and for as much as he can run he cannot throw well on the run.

Want to blame the lack of running game last night? They were daring us to throw the ball all night. Why? No one is scared of Jones.

It's time to bench him and move on.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I hate to say this, but I agree. I don't have any hate towards DJ and agree he is a good guy, hard worker and a good teammate. I've been rooting for him since we drafted him and I refrain from adding to the negativity surrounding him here and on other boards, but I do think it is time to start searching for his replacement. I firmly believe that if he hit Nabors and Slayton in stride last night they both could have scored TD's.
It seems almost every pass he threw last night was behind the receiver. Not just on long balls either. Too many times his targets are waiting for the ball to get to them instead of being in step with them.
Very frustrating and I have just seen too much of this over the years.

DJ's deep passes have been horrific this season. Do we chalk that up to coming off injury and not being fully healed??  The reason I ask, is I could have swore DJ was rated as one of the better deep passers in the league years prior. Am I mistaken?

Those deep passing numbers are extremely misleading. In 2022 he only went deep like 23 times the entire season which was 2nd to last in the NFL. So when you barely throw deep unless the guy is wide open then it looks a lot better than guys that throw deep at double the rate. He only had 28 dropbacks where he threw deep and was 30th in the league in deep passing yards with 359 and tied for 28th in deep passing tds with 2. Yet he was labeled like the 7th best deep passer that year by pff despite only making 4 throws beyond 40 yards.

It's a giant sized mirage.

Agree with all that.  I think people support him for that reason and use other reasons for our failure.  Fact is DC around the league have it easy planning to play us and our own coaches have to be conservative.  I'm glad we're not embarrassing ourselves out there, but it will never be enough to truly compete.

Does it really matter?  Can we get much worse?  We're the NFLs third worst team at 29-54-1 during DJ's tenure; we're once again on pace for a 5 - 12 record.  So, I fail to see the relevance of your question; especially when you consider we actually won more games last year starting a rookie UDFA.  Moreover, the Giants need to protect themselves against a possible injury to DJ, which will guarantee his salary for next season and ensure we continue our current trajectory.  If they go 1 - 5, it would be absolutely foolish to continue to start DJ...

problem is he is playing just well enough to not get benched.

Can anyone tell me where the arm talent went? He could throw deep and drop it in the bucket when he first arrived in New York, but now every throw beyond 15 yards looks so hard, arrives late, and is underthrown. He has no arm or shoulder injuries that I am aware of. His mechanics are about the same although his front shoulder is slow to clear, and that may be affecting his velocity. I just don't get it.

I dare say all the short passes have messed of his mechanics on the longer throws where he can't just rely on his arm alone.

I think he's just broken. physically and mentally. hes had some rough injuries to his shoulder, neck, and legs. that can certainly derail arm talent. and for the mental aspect- he had a coach in judge that would absolutely desecrate him if he made any mistakes or threw INT. that will take a toll on you. add in the AWFUL oline play that led to him getting hit on almost every drop back, and sub par receivers most of his career. its sad and unfortunate, but its the reality. i am really hoping with our seemingly improved oline (he has barely been on his back this year), and improved weapons he can get it back. but it just doesnt seem to be there. This guy needs a dangerous TE

As much as I will never stop believing Mara forced this kid down Schoen & Dabolls throat with that ridiculous extension (which was 10x worse than Gettelmen drafting him at #6).

He DID tell the truth when he said "we did everything we could to ruin the kid" what he should've included is that they also ruined the last 5 years of our 2x SB MVP's career by allowing him to continuously take beating after beating, starting with 2011 when he carried the offense on his back with clutch late game heroics week after week.

What's my point?
DJ like Eli was destroyed by the poor team building around him. The difference is Eli was a franchise QB, DJ never was and they just can't be a contender with DJ...he's not proven once in 6 years that he could carry the offense. You don't pay your QB $40M a year to be a game manager, you pay that $$$ for a difference maker.

Edit to add: Has anyone noticed that for 6 seasons, Jones has never once had to compete for the starting job?! It's a ridiculous notion when so many observers including "experts" assert that he was at best a nice QB, no one has defended him as a franchise QB (save for John). And we wonder why we're so damn bad 6 years in.

The truth is out, don't risk that guaranteed $$$ kicking in for '25.... Move on now! It's time to finally fix this broken team.

I see him steeping in the bucket and not remaining square on deep throws. The observations in this thread are dead on.

I also have NO idea why after the screen passes worked so well in week 2 and also a few times against Dallas then why didn't Daboll stay with it?

Why isn't Hyatt being given a chance?

Why don't we throw to the TE?

Why don't we throw the ball INTO the end zone?

Why does WanDale always run short of the sticks?

I'll say this - Slayton drops are killing us. If he holds onto the ball against Washington on the 2 point conversion, we probably win that game too.

Fast Eddie Felson

At this point in his career, I just don`t see a 40 mil QB out on the field. His short throws and loss in speed are noticeable. He is not throwing well on the run, and, he is leading receivers into big hits on occasion.
It`s time to ask if Drew Lock or Dan DeVito are any worse than fielding Dan Jones, or could they give us something he doesn`t have?
Will the Giants change out after a Seattle loss?

We have discussed Hyatt and why he doesn't seem to be involved in the offense. Now I can see why, Hyatt's main attribute is speed and Jones simply cannot get him the ball.
