SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

Ed Vette

11 Personnel has the most targets and a 62% Completion %. Interesting how 4 Receivers have just 6 pass attempts. Either too many options or the pass protection with 5 hats leads to pressure. The two TE sets have some potential.

Interesting tidbit from the Dallas defenders after the game. I'm paraphrasing- "the Giants were easy to defend. They never throw to their Tight Ends, so once they came into the game, we knew it was a run play".

That would explain why Dallas defended the run so well. It's true - the Giants only use their TEs to block. With the two high safety formation taking away the deep pass, teams are giving the Giants the short/intermediate passes and with minimal run threats, even the weakest defenses can focus on limiting YAC.

No Hyatt, no Bellinger/Johnson - it would seem to me that Daboll has to start diversifying his offense.

Ted, let be preface this by saying this is a universal response and not directed at just you.

Dallas was often in Cover One with 8 in the box. When the Giants had 2 WR Sets, they ran into it and yes it was obvious so they brought up the LBs and the Box Safety. I'm watching a play right now on the All-22 at the 13 Minute mark. Jones Under Center, I Formation with a two-back set. Jones had the option to check out of that Run and have the 2 Receivers run a Mesh behind the 8 Defenders. He didn't.

What really annoyed me was the encroachment penalty and a free play with Jones underthrowing Slayton who was wide open for an interception. The very next play, trips right and a LOWR, 17 Right Inside Slot runs a 5 yard Flat, 86 OSR a Deep Slant and 13 LWR a Mid Crosser. Jones doesn't wait for the plays to develop, and he bird dogs 17, while both 86 and 13 would have been open. Clean pocket. Blown Coverage on Nabors, wide open and he doesn't lead him for what should have been a TD.

No disputing what Dallas saw when the TE's were in to block, but.. there were plenty of opportunities in this game. Yes, utilizing the middle of the field when they went Cover 2 would be a good option, because the Safeties are wide to the hash and the OCBs want to push the Receiver to the sideline. However, there were 38 Routes Run by the 3 TEs and one, count 'em ONE target to Theo and only Theo. One target out of 38 Routes by the TEs. Now who's fault is that? It sure ain't Daboll's. Also, Jones did target 16 passes in Center and 5 were 10+ yards, while there were fewer Left and Right.

PFF isn't going to measure the significance of a play or who could have been an open target. Daboll isn't going to throw his QB under the bus. On the surface, DJ had a good game statistically. Throwing the blame on the game Plan, Over-rushing, Improper use of the TE's, Lousy Talent, The Kicker, and Drops... isn't going to Gaslight the fact that this should have been a win and that Daniel Jones has responsibility for this loss more than anyone.

Ive been saying this for 2 weeks (not nearly as good as you've pointed out so I thank you)...if the defenders said any of that it shows also why we couldn't run the football. Daboll shouod force the QB to use the TE instead of any type of option to do so - if only to keep the defense honest. It's such a shame that Jones locks in and doesn't possess the intangibles we take for granted because in reality if he did then he would likely be a much better football player

Ted

FINALLY, we think alike. Ther e is just no excuse for a 6 year veteran QB to play the way he has. Yes, his stats come out looking like he  had a good game, but  numbers don't always tell the story of the game.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

This Dallas "quote" doesn't make sense because the Giants have been running a bunch of max protect with TEs this season...

Makes perfect sense to me. Dallas kept it simple. They anticipated the Gmen based on the TE position and they anticipated correctly.

I will say last year the big issue was our oline not picking up stunts and jones got hammered all night. If we notice he had time to throw all night long. Proves our oline coach is miles ahead of last year disaster
