Most definitely. The way the ball bounced int BFW's hands on the run was exactly how we've had our hearts broken many times. Amazing feeling to be on the good side of it!

After the game BFW said the play played out just how they practiced it (even with him recovering the block)

This is the sort of play that usually the refs throw a flag on, and rule it a penalty against us, and then we get an email on Tuesday from the league saying "sorry we blew it". They seem to always start with its a penalty against the Giants.

that title is one of the first things I thought when it happened.  Maybe it was karma for the way that first drive ended.  Regardless, it was great to have a play like that seal a game for this team.  Feels like it hasn't happened in a long time.

Don't hold your breath, but it's the type of play that happens to a team when the worm has turned. 

We have suffered (almost continuously) for quite a while this century... I wouldn't rule it out.

As stated in the title to another thread.... "we're close."

I called it in the game thread the "Are You Kidding Me" play of the game as it was the perfect bookend to how the game started. How do you write this stuff up?

I'm hoping it will build them some confidence and continue to build the camaraderie to take on and play competitively with the better teams and, just perhaps, make the one or two plays they need to make in order to turn NFC East matchups in their favor, for once in a long while.

But, for now, it was a great play to end yesterday's big win.

Tim: There's a bit more to it. 

(1) somewhere on the Giants' official site I read a quote from Ford-Wheaton who said, essentially, Simmons promised him he was going to block that field goal and told Ford-Wheaton to keep his head up because the ball would come right to him, and be ready to grab it and run.

(2) they planned that block play in practice during the week... ONCE. Simmons had a grand total of ONE rep.  The actual block was only the second time he had ever tried it.  Also, it was the first time in Simmons' now-fairly-long NFL career that he played on the field goal team.

In the past, the Giants don't recover from that fumble return early in the game. That felt like the blocked FG return against Dallas all over again. Instead, they take the ensuing kickoff and march right back down the field for a touchdown.

Good info, Bob.  I suspect he'll be on the field for more FG tries going forward.

I have to admit, I was a bit surprised the ball didn't split Simmons' arms and continue through the uprights. The Giants have found some gut wrenching plays to lose games over my lifetime. Edwards, Westbrook, Desean, 60 yard FGs, botched snap then PI on Seubert not called, and on and on. It was odd to see the stunned look on someone else's face other than the guy in the mirror.

As Giants fans we so conditioned to be the Charlie Brown with the Refs being the Lucy Van Pelt pulling the football away as we fall on our asses that when a play like this happens your first instinct is to wait for that yellow flag graphic on your TV screen. I waited a good 45 seconds before celebrating.
