I'm sure Baldy knows this but he didn't mention it (probably because it's not an OL thing).

Watch Slayton the first time he's featured... before the ball is thrown he begins to "fade" (away from us) as he leans into the defender (i.e., toward the middle of the field and away from the sideline).

He makes more room between himself and the near sideline to allow Jones a good-sized space to throw the ball.  That is the "thing" announcers always stress when a sideline pass of that type fails.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

So good to hear about competent OL play.  It's been too long since that unit looks like they belong.  But it does beg the question "what can this offense do if the OL plays average to above average?"

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking Jones and his performance on Sunday.

I would like to see him develop some more patience. His line has proven through five games that they can and will protect him.

So, looking at Baldy's video above, when he highlighted Tracy's blitz pickup, Jones throws a quick pass to Wan'Dale (short of the sticks... again). If Jones waits or pump fakes (@Trench) to Wan'Dale, he has Theo all alone and probably walking into the end zone.

Tim: It's going to happen.

He's so used to having to rush his reads, it's a hard habit to break.

If they win the next game he should have enough confidence to slow down his progression.

PS. By the way, quietly, our young center has begun to take charge (as he did in college). He still has a bit of trouble with the very best. The good news is THAT he gets to practice every day against (and receive advice from) one of the very best, and Dexter is more than happy to help and to make suggestions. I already notice subtle changes in Schmitz when asked to get to the second level, or make a combo block, or make two blocks on the same play. Those are his strong suits. He's football smart and is slowly learning the real pro tricks of the trade, IMO.

I agree that Jones will get more patient as his trust in the protection grows. Along with that should come some reluctance to bail and instead keep his eyes downfield for Hyatt  ;)

The line as a whole has been a huge boost to the offense and JMS, as you said, is getting very comfortable and looking the part as the anchor for the improvement. Bricillo gets my vote for the best off-season acquisition, with his two linemen from LV right up there with him.
