Quote from: MightyGiants on October 08, 2024, 03:50:19 PMIt's certainly earlier in the season.

That's not what I meant. I mean how they were informed/escorted/cut off.

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 08, 2024, 10:34:13 AMI don't think firing Saleh will make 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers any younger.   I guess dysfunctional teams tend to do dysfunctional things.

This picture perfectly captures what happens when a 40-year-old man decides to play a violent contact sport with 20-somethings.

Heck, that's what I've been feeling lately without the contact.

Only the Jets can provide these type of headline-making news reports.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

I heard a blurb on WFAN that Woody took offense that Saleh was wearing a patch of the flag from his home country Lebanon. No one knows what goes thru the owner's mind, but reports say he was very upset, especially playing in London.

QuoteWhile Saleh's firing was due to team performance, the internet will find a way to stir up controversy. During the team's game against the Vikings in Week 5, Saleh wore a team sweatshirt featuring a Lebanese flag patch on his arm. That caused some fans to wonder whether that display played a role in his firing.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

I think Johnson just decided to rip the bandaid off quickly of something that just wasn't working.

If the Jets win against the Bills in week 6 they are in 1st place.  I guess Woody thinks firing the HC will help win that game?

Sirianni's seat must be warm.

Sounds like Woody really thinks his team is good and Saleh not getting it out of them.  He didnt even consult his GM Joe Douglas.  Wow how does Douglas feel?  Bad but probably mot as bad as Saleh who was escorted out under security.

There's been a lot of chatter about that.  Do a google search on 'saleh lebanon patch' and you'll get lots of hits.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

I thought the NFL uncouraged guys to wear flags and other items to honor their decent. It was part of their inclusion effort. I don't see how that could be the reason.......then again, this IS the Jets we are talking about.

I find the firing just baffling. Saleh is not the problem. The guy who rarely throws interceptions has 4 in 5 games and is struggling (by his own admission) to make accurate throw and plays on schedule.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant - Robert McCloskey (if he were on this Forum)

The NFL gave the 49ers two third-round picks for the Jets hiring Saleh.   I guess Woody was one of the owners not in favor of more diversity among HCs and GMs

C'mon guys. None of us was born yesterday. I think we can all figure out why Saleh was fired NOW, the way he was, especially being thrown out by security, which is what you do when you want to humiliate a guy.

I think people are going to over complicate the situation now.  Salah's record is not very good at all.  Not all his fault based on the QB situation he inherited.  The organization went all in on Rodgers and the offensive scheme has been a disaster.  On top of that it was becoming more and more apparent that Salah just isn't head coach material.

The Jets saw this week as a crossroads to their season.  Pull out a win and you're 3-3 and actually in first place.  Lose and you're 2-4 and facing even more calls for a change.

What does all that have to do with being kicked out of the building by security? Coaches get fired all the time. This never happens.

The timing and circumstances of the firing is also really suspect. I get it, Saleh wasn't a great HC. When's the last time the Jets had a great HC? But let's call a spade a spade, I hate playing innocent.

uconnjack8

According to the guys on the "Opening Drive" on NFL Radio:

1) Saleh wanted to have someone other than Hackett call plays (forgot the guys name).

2) Woody spoke with Rodgers on the phone prior to the firing.  Woody claims that the conversation had nothing to do with the decision.

Saleh may not be a good HC, but this firing is classic Jets and it reeks of a past his prime QB having way too much say with an over reaching owner.  Why is the GM still there?

What is the Jets defense ranked?
What is the Jets offense ranked?

Messiah717

Exactly.  They went all in on Rodgers who after a lost year has them in a panic over him and the team.
