It's rhetorical at this point. Bench him..avoid an injury clause of $23 mil ..the season is gone .work in the young players...get experience. Tape on them..Doesn't matter. Team is officially broken, inept and pathetic. Game over

The Carolina coach said young was the starter after a defeat.

By the Monday/Tuesday, The Red Rocket was the starter.

I wouldn't read anything into soundbites from a post game HC

Plus, he's not going to make that decision without meeting with the GM and owner; Daboll doesn't have the clout to bench the Francise QB without discussing it with the owner, which will happen Tuesday.  I suspect the same was true for Carolina.

Does he have a choice? His days as a head coach are numbered due in large part to Jones utter ineptitude. If he benches Jones at leas he goes down swinging. I'd rather go out on my own terms than to let the owners crush take you down. At this point Mara's love for Jones is pathological. It doesn't take any other team six years to figure out a guy sucks.

Quote from: kingm56 on October 20, 2024, 04:08:55 PMYou realize the game has fundamentally changed since GY's days, right? AND, before today, he had one of the better pass-blocking lines in the NFL, and still produced the NFL's #29 scoring defense.  We'll be down to 30 this week.  In the modern NFL, the correct saying is show me a struggling team and I'll show you a team with a mediocre or worse QB.
In fairness, many, myself included, swore up and down if the OLine was better, Jones would be better.  We were dead wrong.  Today, the OLine was bad, and people will cite the 8 sacks.  But, the Giants D had 5 sacks.  Barkley's yards were on 3 plays that were perfectly blocked.  Jones has been terrible all season.

Agreed.  If Daboll was thinking about making a change, he is not going to say it right away.  He knows he would be speaking emotionally and he does need some time to breathe after the game to make sure his head is straight.

Jones did plenty of hesitating and double and triple pumping in the pocket today.  He was under duress but his decisiveness and slow processing didn't help today.

The OL basically fell apart without 1 player, which makes me wonder how much they were covering up those weaknesses when they were able to leave their LT on an island.

Sadly Lock was worse and showed nothing that he should be the starter. Devito should be the #2.

I'm not saying Jones isn't a problem and I really wish the Giants could get off the coaching carousel, but I don't think Daboll is the answer. He's supposedly an offensive guru and some kind of QB whisperer, but the offense sucks and Jones has not progressed at all under his tutelage.
This team never looks to be prepared to play and now we have questions about a lack of effort.
Mid-October and once again, the season is about over.

Coach #3 that he has not progressed under

ozzie

Right, but Daboll was supposed to turn him into Josh Allen.

Anyone who thought Daboll was going to turn Jones into a QB with top 5 arm talent was delusional.  You cannot coach a dramatic difference in arm talent.

The hope was that he could get him to a top half of the league QB and put above average parts around him.  It failed as it did with the previous coaches who are now reviled by fans (so let it be with Daboll when the time comes).

I think Slayton could draw interest under the right circumstances.

What do you think Thibs ceiling is?  Do you think he will hit that ceiling?

Most importantly, do you think the Giants will be able to pay him when the time comes given they are spending over $50 million/year on Lawrence and Burns?

Might be able to get a 1st rounder from a team that thinks it's a pass rusher away, or one that lost one to injury.

I think Thibs is a good player but I think building up draft capital is the top priority right now.

Burns looks like he can be the alpha double  team commanding pass rusher.  It's nice to have a lot of pass rushers but they  need one position more than any other currently.
