They defeated Seattle and had Dallas completely out of gas on final two offensive drives of the game.  The play calling in those two games were night and day with what we saw today.  They focused on the run and letting their defense shine in those games.  Why today without their start OLT did they decide to pass nearly every play of the first half?

I think it's fair to evaluate coaches based on what they are doing to get the best talent out of the team.  I defended the play calling in the Dallas game because I think the coaching staff kept the team in the game.  Today, the game plan seemed doomed from the first snap.  Maybe it was the return of Nabers or Philly's run defense?

Yes it's bad that the offense can't execute a typical playbook (a combo of QB/OL/WR struggles) but when a coach calls plays they can't execute, what's that suppose to prove?  Should Daboll take the rest of the season off and let an assistant gain some experience because team talent isn't good enough so he shouldn't be subjected to play calling evaluation? I think Daboll is going to lose the confidence of the club with pour game plans and bad personnel decisions (e.g. Gano).  He's going need to prove his resiliency in the remaining games.

Blows my mind how people ignorantly hate on his playcalling when the QB doesnt fn throw to wide open receivers

Quote from: Giantleap56 on October 20, 2024, 09:43:44 PMThe coach is trash people open your eyes there are not adjustments has no planning and no clue what he is doing. He looks absolutely in over his head. Anyways my plan is coming to fruition one step

at a time.
My eyes are wide open thanks.

I don't think Daboll is some great offensive mind or even an above average HC, but this abortion of an offense has a lot more to do with execution than it does with play calling.

They have a mediocre OL paired with a QB that can only see half the field, lacks pocket presence, processes slow and isn't effective throwing to the outside more than a few yards.

They could  hire Reid and Shanahan and they would be running a similar offense because that's what it's limited to.

In 2022 it was play calling that got them to the playoffs.  They recreated the Denver Tim Tebow offense .  Problem is you can't win with gimmicky offfenses for long in the NFL.

There are plenty of things I don't like about Daboll and I wonder how much input he has on personnel decisions.  Still it seems almost odd that the Giants have had such rough time finding someone to do that job adequately for this long.

It would be really nice if folks could just give their opinions without feeling the need to be attacking other posters.  This is supposed to be a discussion board, not a "Change My Mind" table.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

coggs - and look at the deep middle. They don't even try.

That's literally unbelievable. Every DC in the league has this chart and that's why all the other areas of the field are clamped down.

They KNOW the Giants will not attack the intermediate/deep middle.

That's the anticipation throw DJ just can't hit. The seam route and the deep in. Eli was masterful at that throw. You have to throw the guy open into the middle of the field, with anticipation. All the QBs do it. DJ can't. These are the big boy throws an NFL QB has to make.

There is not even too many beyond 10 yards.

And further, the right side of the field beyond 10 yards is basically a no go zone.  Good to know if you are a defense

Quote from: LennG on October 20, 2024, 08:16:27 PMBut isn't the coach/OC's job to put that said QB in the best position to succeed? Make game-time adjustments to what is going on on the field.

This has always been one of my biggest critique's of daboll. NEVER makes adjustments. and if he does, its to get more conservative. Even the games we win, we almost let go in the second half

For the nth time...

Daboll is not a HC...he realized it and decided to hide behind a playsheet...he is lousy as an OC because he has to also be attending his responsibilities as a HC (by title) during the week and on gameday...

Man can't multi-task and simply has NO CLUE how to lead or run all facets of (head) coaching a team.

Sorry but I am just waiting for him to leave...

Go Giants!

Looking at DeVito's stats from last year. There was feel good energy from the fans and kind of like Linsanity energy going on that players and fans fed off of. That energy well good to have for a team and it does wonders. But getting back to stats. Tommy completed 64% of his passes 8-3 TD in 9 games averaging 122 yards per game. A passing distance of 6.4 yards. These are not world beating numbers but just having the unknown commodity and first time go around, would DeVito do the same now that the teams know? When all said and done we blame the QB when coaches don't plan well for teams. We blame the QB when coaches have nothing in their playbook to adjust to opponents. I hate to beat a dead horse but there is no way I want Daboll to be near the next QB. He isn't a good coach. After the first 9 games into his Giants tenure he has been a disaster.
In the division every coach of the opposing team has been to the Super Bowl as ahead coach Daboll is the only one that hasn't done it. This is his first gig, Everything screams that he isn't coaching material. Assistant coach at best someone needs to take his play calling away from him or simply put him on the curb. This team for all the we don't know how to draft a QB or this and that. This team doesn't know how to pick a quality tenured coach with a history of winning. They are picking these unknown commodities that have accomplished nothing as head coaches.
Some will say Bill Parcells was an unknown the thing is Bill joined the Giants in 1979 and earned the right to coach through the organization. TC coached Jacksonville and took them to AFC championship game.
There is a lot of stupid stuff that this coach does. I can't get on board with Daboll. I'm done, I don't want him near the new QB that eventually comes in.

Quote from: Messiah717 on October 20, 2024, 07:33:38 PMI've posted a couple of times.  Both are incompetent.  Daboll's play calling is atrocious.
so they come ou and throw the ball ...what 8 out of first 10 plays .......didn't even try to run until passing game prove fruitless.....then   Eagles knowing passing game sucks .....focus on the run and Giants are left with nothing .... what else is new

LennG

Also, why not, at least, try and give Jones a bit more to work with, like trying to run the ball a lot more. I couldn't believe we came out passing, even as Jones was getting piled on. I thought Kafka was bad, but Daboll is making him look good.

And I understand you need a decent QB to help your game plan work, but we don't have that, so why still run that same game plan when we know it isn't going to work? Jones has limited talent, at least call plays that he can work with and not get that same lame excuse it's all on the QB.
Yes, he sucks but try and put him in the best position to succeed like he did in 2022. Jones wasn't asked to do a lot, just manage a game which he did. Has getting Nabors changed all of that?
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

There is a decent chance that the Giants can lose to the Steelers this Sunday night . What if by some chance they lose to the Panthers in Munich the following week, do you think that Daboll will be fired and replaced by Mike Kafka as an intrim coach?

Would Bellichik be in the wings ? Would love Ben Johson as the next coach but he turned down HC positions last year and is probably looking for the right spot - Dallas Cowboys perhaps ?

MrGap92

Wide open receivers on a weekly basis = bad play call

Makes sense.

MrGap92

I just do not get it

What more can a guy call or scheme than wide open receivers and fairly easy passes that most halfway decent QBs can complete?

If that is a bad playcall, then there may not be any good OCs or playcallers in the league.

The game in Munich is in 3 weeks not 2. We still play the Commanders on 11/3.
Kafka doesn't even call plays. He is in no position to be interim head coach.
Belichick is more likely to order wings at MetLife than coach at MetLife. Another thread with the 73 year old head coach nonsense.
