I think Dab's gets another go with another QB. They inherited a team bereft of talent at all positions, they schemed up a play book to limp into the playoffs, made the most of their bounces and won a playoff game. He does have what looks like the makings of a good defence, and hopefully Sunday was an aberration. So all things considered, I think he gets another go.

I understand this might be a universally popular view. But it's how I see it. 

At this point, we are all just speculating, so I think as long as you support it reasonably well (as you have done) there is no right or wrong answer, and I am not going to assign popularity.

Carl Banks talked about the defense in his last podcast (there is a thread on it).  He said that in the prior few games, the defense played well except for a couple of bad plays (big gain plays by the opposing offense).  This past Sunday, that "but two plays" became "but five plays."

What will be interesting is to see if the "but X plays" become less or more as the season progresses.  Do we chalk up Sunday's increase to the defense having to be on the field too much or are teams starting to "figure out" Bowen's defense?

The "figuring out" of Bowen's defence is a massive concern, I agree and it's as plausible as an "off day".

I do think theres some mitigation for thr D. Firstly, the loss of Thibbs setting the edge in the run game (as pointed out by someone else here, I cannot remember who).

2. Dex and Burns were hampered in the week so hopefully that contributed to the overall performance.

The balancing of Banks's behaviour is a big test for Bowen and the coaching staff too.

What could be a bigger challenge for the defense is that Flott got injured (again) in the Eagles game with what was listed as a "groin".  Factor in that Adoree Jackson missed the game due to a neck injury, and they could be short boundary CBs when they face the Steelers

Belichick, Lombardi, Parcells, Landry, it doesn't matter who they hire, as long as Wellington Jr sticks his nose in the draft, free agents, assistant coach changes, etc, it won't change. It's being run like it was in the 70's. GM's must be given time to build from the ground up and not worry about picks that don't work. George Young had busts in the 80's, but was allowed to move past them. The GM must be the one that decides the head coaches fate. The hard part for the owner is to find the right GM.

As for hiring Belichick, that's how the Jets are run. 1 or 2 year fixes with personnel that have their best days behind them

The best fit for Belichick might be the Jags. Shad Khan will literally sign the deal with him and then leave him alone all year to do whatever he wants. That won't happen on the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, or just about anyone else. And make no mistake - that is the setup Belichick is used to and (I would expect) would gravitate to if he indeed pursues another big NFL job.

I just can't imagine him relishing coming to the Giants and having John Mara mope into his office every five minutes the way he did with Schoen on Hard Knocks.

Jags are an interesting pairing.  He has a QB that hasn't lived up to pre-draft expectations but he is not awful either.  Type of guy that can complement a good D. 

Not sure if BB is making personnel decisions if any of that matters though.

I don't see a reason to believe the 4th time will be the charm.

The last time the Giants enjoyed success was when they had a strong, tough-minded head coach, Tom Coughlin, who set the right culture for this team.  Is Bill Belichick the only one that could set the culture?  Probably not, but outside of Mike Vabrel, I don't know another HC with the status and ability to undertake the sort of massive effort needed to fix this clearly broken team.

I'm with you Rich. I want someone established who knows how to command the locker room and deal with spoiled kids like our 1st round CB. BB will be in charge and players will trust.

To those who are against this, I ask how will you feel when Jerry Jones hires BB?....i know I'll feel the same way as when he hired Parcells. And he did very well there.

I couldn't care less. As long as Jerry is breathing, I don't expect Dallas to win another SB.

The most I am wiliing to concede is having Belichick as an advisor/consultant. I don't want him to have any authority or decision-making responsibilities.

The Giants need to establish a winning culture in their organization.  They need a strong head coach who will do just that.  I am aware of only two proven commodities, Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel.

I was toying with the idea of Belichick as GM and Vrabel as HC, but that might be a case of too many chefs.   If Schoen was willing (and I assume he would be), I would fire Daboll (not his staff) and hire Bill Belichick.   I would tell him it would be a three-year deal, and part of Bill's assignment would be to prepare a successor.  I would let Bill keep the staff members he liked and replace those he didn't (I think it would be helpful for Bill at this point of his career to be given a boost in terms of having some pretty good position coaches already on the roster.

I appreciate that hiring Belichick will not solve the issue of needing a franchise QB.  Still, failing an easy answer at franchise QB, the best thing a team can do (in my opinion) is keep building a quality winning team until an opportunity to acquire a proper QB presents itself.

Unless he can go back in time and bring a younger Tom Brady with him, I'm not interested, and I'm fairly certain that it would end in bitter disappointment and disaster.
