Couple of things:

1) HK was a very limited view into what happens behind the scenes.

2) There's different types of meddling and I'm a firm believer that Mara's is the indirect type of meddling and influence.

I can't say that I watched much of Hard Knocks to be honest. Maybe he doesn't have that big of a role in personnel decisions, but he certainly does in GM and head coach selection.

I'm not sure I would categorize it like that.  He knew the cameras were on him and still made it pretty clear his preference was to bring Barkley back.  I imagine similar conversations took place the year before when it came to Jones and Barkley both. Where I imagine if it were up to Schoen he'd have let Jones walk and signed Barkley (assuming Barkley even wanted to come back at all at that point).

He started 6 of the 8 games in question.
