Quote from: MightyGiants on October 29, 2024, 03:28:19 PMProbably a little of both.  Drops are often an indication of a lack of attention to detail or lack of concentration.  It can also be an indicator of a player's lack of ability.  With so many players dropping balls, I think it's an organizational rather than an individual issue.

When a RB who was a former WR is suffering the drops, it makes one wonder
One of Naber's scouting "negatives" was drops. Same for Slayton. I don't believe anyone knows why.

Maybe they should stand 3 feet away from a jugs gun in their skivvies and have balls fired at them. Catch it or get blown up. lol

WanDale is in the middle of the pack for drops, looking at receivers in the NFL with at least 20 catches. Slayton and Nabers are lower but I think the names at the bottom of this list might surprise some people.

It is not just the pure number of drops everyone should be looking at. It is the targets and the number of balls thrown to them that are considered catchable.
Wan'Dale Robinson and Malik Nabers are among the league leaders in drops. They are also in the top 10 in the NFL  targets and receptions.
Rashid Shaheed on the other hand doesn't have a drop yet this year, but has only seen 21 catchable balls on 41 targets.

Where are the targets? Are you adding catches and catchable? If so why would you do that?
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I can give you targets. Relating catches and catchable balls, not adding them together. I have added Targets and Drops/Target (D/T) in the table below. Still sorted by Drops/Catchable Balls(D/C) which I believe is the best measure of drops. I've given up trying to format the table.

What's more disturbing is that about 30% of the targets to Nabors and WDR were uncatchable.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Although there are worse. Almost 50% in some cases.

Keep in mind that balls deliberately throw over their head out of bounds or at the feet are in that number.

I think if you look down the list, 30% is only slightly above the average. When you consider the QBs throwing to the players at the bottom of the list, it seems about right. What is interesting to me is that Jones seems to be about as accurrate on the Deeper throws (Slayton) as he is on the shorter throws (Wan'Dale.)
