Why do they say that
It made sense for the Eagles to pick him up and the ravens to pick up D Henry.
Those players might be the missing key
But the Giants it would of been dump
Also Our backs are doing a pretty good job
So why do they think this

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and Barkley was the best skill player on our offense last year. Many also viewed him as a team leader and general great locker room guy as well as a player who is well respected around the league. I can understand why plenty of fans would have preferred he stay.

I was glad they didn't re-sign him, and not because I don't respect him or think he's good. The economics just didn't make sense for the Giants for where they are right now. Too many other issues to be allocating that type of money to a second RB contract. It's just too replaceable of a position. To your point, we're getting pretty good play out of a sixth rounder.

The football people I respect generally had no problem with letting Barkley go.  Players his age, with his injury history, are almost always being paid for past performance and don't live up to their contract.  That has been true in the NFL for at least a decade. 

Barkley is PFF's 11th-ranked RB, despite ideal conditions.  The Eagles don't seem like a favorite to be the NFC Super Bowl rep.  So, did the Eagles really score signing Barkley?  Heck, for the price of a 5th rounder we got a RB who is nearly as good (and might be better if he was the Eagles RB)

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Seeing him go to Philly hurts big time. Not surprising since he went to Penn St. Easier watching Tracy. Since the Giants don't seem to be going anywhere this year, losing Barkley doesn't hurt and if Tracy continues to play like he has, better for the future.

Once a Giant and if the money is there, always a Giant.

I don't know what football people you're talking about, but this topic has been talked to death.

I'd rather they signed Barkley and let Jones play out without a new contract.  That would have been much less expensive than signing DJ to the new contract and dropping Saquon.  Honestly if DJ would be a FA after this year, would you sign him based on his 2024 play plus previous seasons?  I wouldnt and I'd still have Saquon now with Nabers and an emerging Tracy so 3 good offensive pieces.  I'd dip into FA to get a bridge starter then use 2025 draft on a QB or more offensive pieces.

I wish, even more, that they had traded him.  I don't think he ever really wanted to re-sign with the Giants because he figured he would be more productive on a better offensive team.  And Slayton may think the same thing which is why I am skeptical about him re-signing and willing for them to trade him.

If they had to trade Slayton and a 6th round pick just to get a 5th, would you still trade him?

The Jones contract did not prevent the Giants from signing Barkley. They had $30 million in cap space available which was more than enough. Schoen put a cap on what he was willing to pay Saquon. The Giants don't have running backs and safeties rated highly on positional value. Especially 27 year old RBs with a history of injuries.

I'd like them to get more, but maybe.  The draft choice is just part of it.  There's also the matter of some CAP savings and the ethical dumping.

Barkley was their best offensive player by far and trained his ass off to recover.  Was a leader on the team.  You build around those qualities.  A strong running game helps a QB.  Schoen was wrong on this one.  I'd be more happy with Saquon and a Tyrod Taylor type.

Please be kind and spare us your woulda/shoulda/couldas. It's over, it's done for everyone here, and for the football sheeple who now are pounding sand on some other topic.
