Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 10, 2024, 03:29:57 PMWhat coach that is available is better than Daboll right now?

Schoens classes are getting better, his trades have been great, and FA has Been great.

I trust Daboll with a new qb more than anyone that will be available as he hasnt been able to run his own offense since he got here.

This was an excellent question.  I didn't want to give an off the cuff answer, so I did a study on this thread

Frankly, from what I found Daboll is neither a QB guru nor an offensive guru.   His career results suggest that he is a mediocre OC and QB developer who has a career propped up by two good seasons in Buffalo with Josh Allen as his QB.

Lots of blame to go around ...for sure....Jones, yes, O line still an issue ,yes , undisciplined play costing Giants games and momentum at times , yes, defense doesn't t make a stop when needed , many times, play calling , yes ........and on and on .

What is common demoniator with all of these issues?  the coach ....who insists on playing Jones , who himself seems to call plays out of no where at times that makes no sense , fields an unprepared team , and allows his team to make the same stupid mistakes week after week. Has created a culture of losing that gets worse every week.
In my opinion, Daboll has the rest of season to show the following to Giant fans and Mara.
1. Change QBs
2. show us he knows how to call plays that may have better chance of execution than they do with Jones.
i.e. Jones not seeing or getting the ball to wide open players etc.
3. show us he has not lost locker room by having his team play hard despite losing record.
4. show us his team can play some clean games ...by that I mean , few penalties etc.
5. show us he made right decision getting Wink out and new guy in .Get a friggin interception for crying out loud.
6. try to win a couple of games down the stretch...meaningful games against good opponents.
I know it will ruin draft position...but if they really like a QB next year they can make it happen .ala, Eli Manning trade.
7.  show Giant Fans he is the guy going forward by proving it with this team,( his players 3 years in )
remember he won coach of year with the majority of hold over guys from team when he came here.

If he cannot show us many of the above ...than why should Mara keep him? Start fresh with new coach and His QB whoever that may be ....it will not be Jones.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 11, 2024, 07:37:10 AMThe Giants have the same QB as when Schoen took over.  If the roster has improved, one would expect a better record.   Since the team has a worse record, and explanation is needed and a fix implemented.

The QB is coming off a blown knee and has been worse this year than even his usual level of terrible?

2 out of DJ's three seasons under Daboll have been below his career average

Just like 3 out of 4 of Josh Allen's seasons under Daboll were under his career average

Is it sad or funny that when I read this thread title I legitimately thought it was a Daniel Jones quote?

This is why I wonder if Schoen and Daboll would like to keep staring DJ

The reason Josh Allen's career averages are as high as they are is because under Daboll he went from "barely better than Daniel Jones" to "Consistently great every season" That didn't happen by accident.

More importantly, Allen continued to play better after Daboll left (which is why 3 out of 4 seasons were worse under Daboll).   I think it's fair to give Daboll some credit for Allen's development, but you need to acknowledge that, more often than not, Daboll had his QB playing worse.  As for development, Allen credited his personal QB coach.  I think you need to credit Allen, Daboll, the Bill's QB coach, and Allen's personal QB coach for his development as well has his God given talents.

Quote from: Gmo11 on November 11, 2024, 04:30:36 AMThey have been trying to move on from Jones since the minute they got here and unfortunately they were so good at their job they accidentally made the playoffs during what was supposed to be a cap cleaning (tank) season.

All that did was convince their boss that the plan needed to be changed and they needed to bring back both Jones and Barkley to try and win immediately even though the roster was nowhere near ready for that.

Now the roster actually is ready. They have talent all across the team except at the most important position. If they can get a rookie to even play average football next season this team could be at least in wild card contention.

For me, the guy who usually looks at most things Giants as the glass is half empty, I agree with this part 100%. I see talent at several key positions. We now have a dynamic duo at RB, we have a class WR, and several others who can play. If we secure the OL ()which was playing well until Thomas went down), all we would need is, you guessed it, a QB who can make a play when needed. (Rookie or veteran).
On defense, we have the pass rushers, we have a couple of good to very good LBers and hopefully a decent corner and now a good safety. With good coaching and a new QB, we could definitely be in playoff contention. Until we rid ourselves of the coach killer, this is where we will remain. But I do see a light at the end of the tunnel, but only if Jones isn't here next year.

If Giants go 3-14 following last year, how do you keep Dabs?

Phil

what you say is true, but if truly has been saddled with a QB who simply cannot operate his system, what is he to do? He was COTY and he got Jones to, at least, resemble what an NFL QB should be like, but then teams saw this and closed that down and since then, what can he do to help make Jones something he is not?
Look, I am far from a Daboll supporter. I wasn't thrilled when they signed a guy who has absolutely no HC experience. My one concern is if we draft a new QB, and we leave Daboll to coach him and we still have another horrible year, can e then dump Daboll and hire someone new, what effect will that have on the new QB?

Context matters. What are the circumstances that they go 3-14?

Hypotheticals can be presented for and against keeping him with a 3-14 season.
