It's the right thing to do.  If you are putting it under "who gives the Giants the best chance to win" that's debatable at this point whether Jones fits that criteria or not.  Then when you factor in the injury guarantee that you're not supposed to factor in but always gets factored in anyway...they really shouldn't play him the rest of the year.

I hope so. I'd rather watch old Aqua Velva commercials.

MightyGiants

I hope this is the case. This will allow the final 7 games to identify the other problems

There's no reason he should see another snap.  At 2-8 and after a dreadful performance against a terrible team he sealed his fate.  Different circumstances obviously but him and Rodgers are broken quarterbacks and it's beyond time to move on.

Benching the "franchise" QB. What a time to be alive.

I don't want to win games at this point. There's little point.

However, I don't think Lock gives us that great a chance to win but it's hard to say with the limited time we've seen him. But perhaps, with practice with the 1s and the weapons we have - he might.

I suspect that Lock could prove to be a little bit better than a broken Daniel Jones.  I am not sure if that is the case, though, as Lock has never really done much since entering the league with the Broncos as a 2nd round pick.

Paul Schwartz is one of the reporters that I call "a mouth piece for the team"

He is laying the ground work to change the narrative from, "they are benching Jones for the injury guarantee" to "it's only a football decision to bench Jones"

Money won't decide Daniel Jones' fate with Giants: 'Football decision'

I read that as more confirmation DJ is going to be benched

I don't see why we need to push the narrative that it's about the injury guarantee. Does anyone honestly believe the performances this year warranted the franchise QB to continue playing?

At the end of the day, you employ your franchise quarterback to heighten the performance of others around him. He hasn't been able to do this or play consistently at a high level.

All this talk of narratives and deceit from the Giants is frankly bizarre. Throughout his career, Daniel Jones has not consistently hit the expectations of a 6th overall pick. That has certainly been the case since he signed the deal.

All the back-and-forth about why we are in this position really should not matter. It ought to be clear to all that Jones isn't the best person for the job, and we really ought to just move on.

We are all aware of who said what when the deal was signed. It was clear within two years, we would know which side was correct and who called it wrong. It's really an unimportant detail in this whole affair which seems to be driving this 'change of narrative' stuff that has populated this board. The 'haters' as they were unfairly termed, were bang on the money. Simple as that.

Before the season started, pundits and beat reporters talked about the need to bench DJ for the injury guarantees.  Doing so is something the NFLPA frowns on.  So the Giants are on a PR drive to change the narrative, so they don't have issues.

Plus, I am sure the team knows that while DJ is broken, the other two QBs on the roster are most likely going to play as badly as or play worse than that.  It's the worst scenario that concerns the team.

It's kind of funny.  It's readily apparent that the team is taking the injury guarantee issue seriously, but you still want to deny it.

I'm not denying it's might play a part in the decision-making process of the Giants brass.

It's just not the only factor. His play, regardless of the reasons why, deserves a benching. In my opinion, the concern that the NFLPA will successfully take action against the Giants isn't grounded in reality.

The benching is justified and will, again in my opinion, be easy for the Giants and their legal team to dismiss any claim from Jones or the Union.

Did the NFLPA take action against Payton for doing it to Wilson?

Almost certainly. It's not about winning or losing games for the sake of Draft position; it's about acknowledging to all concerned that Daniel Jones will have no further role as Giants QB moving forward.

Indeed, it was only what we might now see as misfortune/ bad luck with the timing of his one successful season that we have come this far, and to a final conclusion. I suppose we might now consider ourselves lucky that the football gods didn't try to fool us again which could easily have happened.

Cheers!

"Franchise" in name only. In reality a career backup.
