Relevant in that the Colts are both an upcoming opponent as well as competition for the top draft spots

Strange sequence of events in the Anthony Richardson / Joe Flacco saga:

10/27 - Colts lose to the Texans, Richardson admits to tapping out of a play because he was tired

10/29 - Richardson is benched for Flacco

10/30 - HC Shane Steichen says Flacco is the QB "moving forward"

11/3 - Colts lose to the Vikings, Steichen confirms Flacco will continue to start

11/10 - Flacco throws three INTs in loss, Steichen again says he will remain the starter "until I say otherwise"

11/11 - Steichen reaffirms Flacco will start in Week 11

11/13 - Richardson is named the Colts' starter for the remainder of the seaso

Rich one note to add that I heard on the radio:  Steichen supposedly said today, that after discussions with the owner and GM Richardson would start.

And I agree it is very relevant to the Giants going forward.

What a dysfunctional organization. Too bad for that kid.

He has the physical tools, but they have mishandled him since day one, should have been red shirted last year, which would have avoided his injury too.

Then the flip flopping does him no favors either, now this is how a QB gets broken, I hope for his sake they don't clean house.

I also feel for the kid, but any 'kid' who takes himself out of a game because he is 'tired' well he won't play on my team for very long. I find something like that inexcusable and just ridiculous. I am 'old school' and you come out when the coach sends someone else in to take your place.  This is the NFL, not some Pee-wee league.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

This is exactly what the rest of the league calls us. Replace Kid with Nabors and Barkley before he left.

I get that it is year 2 for Richardson and the owner and/or the GM want to see what he can do, but that team has a legit shot of making the playoffs (currently 4-6 1 game out of a wildcard spot) this year with decent play from the QB position.

He really doesn't look ready to play.

Something I heard with some relevance here (and to the Giants if they should draft a QB) from Peyton Manning - "If you want to retard a young QBs development, change his OC".

I agree, Lenn and perhaps there's a trace of irony in Richardson's "feeling tired" and the number of Code Blues and 15 drug rehab stints that Colts owner, Jim Irsay has undergone. That said, I wish both of them the very best going forward.

Still, Richardson will have a lot to prove during the remainder of this season and beyond as it now seems that he was rash and perhaps too cocky in having declared for the Draft with only 1 start as a sophomore and just 12 as a Junior. The book on him was: Very talented as a passer and runner with some questions about his accuracy and consistency; something which has hounded him in the pros so far.

There are things about him which might remind us of Daniel Jones physically- including having been over drafted, but almost certainly not in effort and commitment, not as of yet if ever.

Cheers!

I am a gator fan and i will be very surprised if Richardson blossoms into a good to great QB. I watched him at Florida and he has excellent physical tools but he makes bonehead plays on a consistent basis. I didn't like him in the draft and am not surprised by his problems. IMO he has always been a me first player and doesn't have the mental makeup to be an NFL QB. Maybe I'm wrong but he looks today exactly as he looked at Florida.

Coming from a Gator fan, it's not something to be ignored.

Cheers!

I think one of the under-appreciated aspects of playing QB is consistency.  Good NFL QBs are making good plays 90% or better of the time.   You can't have one who does that 75% of the time, regardless of how many of them are impressive.  Without consistency teams can't keep the chains moving.

He was always going to be a special athlete and a developmental QB. They have to play him, coach him, and develop him into what they thought he could be when they drafted him. He isn't a finished product. Never was.

1st round picks cant be developmental players IMHO.  That's what the 5th round is for.

Ed Vette

Almost all QBs are developmental. Very few come out of the gate like Daniels. Even he is in a learning stage. Some need more work than others. It can take three years for a QB to reach his potential. Some need to sit part of the first year. Mechanics issues that affect accuracy are usually correctable. Some didn't get exposed to a Pro system. Some need to learn how to read a Defense and go through reads. Some need to correct footwork. Some need the game to slow down for them so they can put it all together. Being with the right organization and Coaches is paramount.

Completion percentage is 70 or less. Which is the product of accuracy and other factors. It's difficult to determine decision making without in-depth film study. I agree with overall consistency when it's clear if a QB had a good game or a bad game. However, in some cases, should it take six years to figure that out?
