There certainly isn't a downside to giving it back to Kafka for the remainder of the season. Daboll can decide if he wants to keep Kafka next year or bring in someone else.

It turns out being a detriment for most coaches it seems.  Daboll has too much he needs to figure out to have his head buried in the play calling.

That's always been my stance. I was against it when Shurmur did it as well. Some people can get away with it but the majority needs to maintain a distinct area of responsibility. Give input where they feel it is needed (the job of a HC) but let them earn their checks as the coordinators of their respective units.

I watched half of this podcast, and although CB's is saying Daboll is the right guy, he proceeded to give dozens of reasons why he hasn't been the right guy. It smells like it came down from the top to support Daboll and squash the media who have been calling for his head.

I like Daboll, and I do think all these things are fixable but how does all this develop? It's about what is being focused on. Carl brought up a key point in last week's game that was so conspicuous, a neophyte casual fan could see it unfold. You're playing a QB who is struggling in the passing game, yet the focus was the Secondary, and not to stop the Run. The first read has been the Zone Coverage, and it freezes his Inside Linebackers and the Strong Safety. It prioritizes the Pass Rush instead of outside containment. That was the game plan, with no adjustments??

You win on and you improve upon what you focus on. Once confidence is broken, then a defeatist attitude takes over and when you don't believe in yourself, you're dead in the water.

Thinking back to Joe Judge, he was the opposite who needed to be less of an autocrat. Which leads me to my point in all this. Brian Daboll with all his years of experience, was a new Head Coach when he was hired. So was Joe Judge. Schoen pointed out that he's been a new first time GM. There is a learning curve that has to take place. Owners will react as Rich and many of you have said, to fan reaction, attendance and bottom line. There has been a knee jerk reaction all too often going back to when Kevin Gilbride was retired and then Coach Coughlin. (notice I still call him Coach out of respect).

I had a conversation with a couple of friends this morning about how Schoen failed Brian Daboll by doubling down on Daniel Jones instead of having a backup plan by either drafting Bo Nix or bringing in Russell Wilson for the $1.6 MM the Steelers are paying him, to compete with DJ. It was very apparent after last season that a weapon was nice but fixing the mistake would have been the better decision. Ok, learning curve or is he too superficial in his perceptions? He's brought in some good FAs and has had a good 2024 Draft. We shall see. I wouldn't make a change with him. The Jury is still out on Daboll.

Just out of curiosity, what is the criteria for failure here?  Are the plays not working?  I'd say they are working pretty well.  He's getting guys open regularly.  I've been seeing it since Week 1.  If Jones could read a defense this team would be in the mix for a wild card or more. 

If the the criteria is that he's not calling plays that his awful QB can execute.  Ok...but then what plays CAN he execute?  Check downs and runs?  So if/when Daboll calls an entire half of running plays he's crushed then too.

So it seems to me no matter what he does he's wrong.  Run his offense that works and has receivers open consistently every week but the QB can't see them.  Or dumb down the offense to the level of his QB and then we get to see the most boring vanilla offense you can imagine. 

What exactly should he be doing?

My beef with his double-duty is that I feel the entire team is suffering because his priority seems to be the offense.

I've been a supporter of his from Day 1 and I still do, but it's waning by the week. I completely understand he can only do so much with the play calling.

But there needs to be a level of discipline that is instilled from the OC AND the HC, which neither seem to be doing. Too many offensive penalties, too many times the QB is snapping the ball with a second or less on the play clock, players looking like they don't know what they're supposed to be doing (the stupid-ass jumbo 2-pt conversion with three linemen "blocking" for Jones still pisses me off), etc.

What the hell is going on with the defense? Does Daboll the HC spend enough time with his DC to make sure things are on track to get better?

As I said, I understand the limitations of the offense. But the entire team is suffering. He needs to understand the offense is not going to be what he wants it to be whether he's the OC or not. Let's face facts. So he needs to put his time and energy into being the HC and give the OC reins back to Kafka or bring someone else in.

I remember early in the season I questioned Nabors effort among other things and I recieved nothing but, Nabors is great, he is a beast, nothing to worry about etc but I was concerned and still am concerned about Nabors. So far I am not a fan of Nabors. 2-3 critical game changing drops along with the lack of effort and calling out teammates is not conducive to a winning team.

I think the concerns over Nabers are warranted.  As Banks said, if you don't correct a young player with bad habits, you end up with an old player with bad habits and you can't win with those types of players (obviously the team can't win with young players with bad habits either)

So why is Parsons allowed to throw his coach under the bus in Dallas but Nabors can't even talk to the media in NYC?

Which is why given the current QB situation and quite honestly overall state of the team Nabers was a moronic pick.  I mentioned earlier in the season they would ruin this kid and he will look to get out of here at the earliest possible point.
