Maybe stop letting our starting safeties walk away in free agency every offseason and rely on 1st-2nd year players in every role on the secondary?  ~X(

In three seasons, Schoen's shown a tendency to neglect the DB position.  I will give him 2023 as going into the season with, at least, on paper, a solid unit.  However, 2022 and 2024 Schoen was clearly substituting hope (that some player steps up) as opposed to an actual plan

Not to nit-pick but envisaging a unit is going to step up, is actually, a plan.

Not necessarily the right one, but if he focussed spending elsewhere and envisaged a unit stepping up - that is actually, a plan.

To quote Anderson Cooper, "hope is not a plan"  (although, in fairness there are many variations of that quote)

That's why I said "he envisaged", not hope. I don't say hope at all.

Him envisaging them stepping up would be based on coaching reports, practice etc.

But if you're looking to constantly castigate him with Monday morning decisions, I'll leave you to it.

I can remember, in both 2022 and 2024, hoping that some recycled veteran or a rookie would come out of nowhere to fill a critical CB need.   You are certainly welcome to believe otherwise, but in both seasons, there were no proven answers, nor were there players who had demonstrated enough that it was reasonable to project a big step up in performance.

Because nobody in the d backfield turn s to look for the ball....and that is because they are too bust chasing the guy they are covering.

Well, it'll be nice to introduce them as a record-setting defense in a couple games.

While the stats look not all that bad for this Giants Defense through Week 11 – 58.9 ESPN QBR, 5.0 yards per attempt, 118 net passing yards allowed while leading the League with 36 sacks which is 2 more than they recorded in the entire 2023 season, and are on pace to finish the season with a  near franchise record of 68, set in 1985, we wouldn't want to give anyone an impression that things are actually improving on Defense, now would we?

So, let be sure to mention that the run defense has been awful in the last six games as opponents are averaging 166 rushing yards per game and 5.62 yards per carry. Good news for Turkey Day maybe, as the Cows haven't had much of a running game and aren't sure who their QB will be. Perhaps, we don't know either either.

Feel better? I doubt it.

I don't see neglect by Schoen in terms of DBs.  A lot of recent draft resources there. In the last two years they have draft picks for the secondary in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th rounds.

Ok maybe the late round picks shouldn't even be considered.  However, Banks, Nubin and Philips were an investment.  Banks isn't looking great, but I do wonder if that's a product of drfting for different traits for a different DC.
