I heard a lot of speculation that this was a nod to DeVito's popularity with the fans and perhaps boosted fan attendance and interest.  Others speculated that this was an effort to tank without being flagrant in the efforts.

Schneier is simply wrong. Anyone who watched closely clearly realized and saw firsthand Devito moved the ball easier and learned from his mistakes in real time (yes he made plenty). The Giants were definitely better last year under Devito. To say it was basically only because the defense made turnovers is a bit ridiculous.

Actually it's stupid.

In fairness, offensive EPA is not Schneier's opinion; it's a metric that many football people value.  So unless you consider "EPA" a "ridiculous" measure, I am not sure how you can say pointing to that metric is "ridiculous"

No idea what all that means. But to suggest Devito succeeded because of his defense generating turnovers in his second sentence is absolutely 100% RIDICULOUS

Yes ....but to suggest a starting QB won in the NFL only BECAUSE of his defense generating turnovers is absolutely abhorrent and utterly disrespectful!

I don't know the guys body of work but I'll label him a hack now

In fairness, even mediocre QBs have trouble losing if the defense generates 6 turnovers.

By this metric, anybody on the planet can be a starting QB on a given day and win.

It's utterly ridiculous to suggest in print that a QB won games only because of his defense. The guy shouldn't be given any sort of platform.

To be frank, I can't say I am on board with using a team's wins and losses as a QB metric

Tommy Boy was benched for Tyrod Taylor for a reason. His last two games he was horrible. I sure hope he elevated his game. My guess is we see Drew Lock soon enough. At least he's on par with DJ.

Hall of Famers Al Davis and Bill Parcells would disagree with you. As will I. If Devito wins this weekend and doesn't have great stats he still gets credit in my book. Conversely, If he looses and has great stats he still shoulders blame in my book.

I am sure there are people, even quality football minds, who may disagree with me.  While I appreciate that QB is the most important single position, I am mindful that there are well over 21 other players who play important roles in a team's success or failure.   We need only look at Eli Manning and his two Super Bowl rings and the nose dive the team took after his miracle 2011 Super Bowl run (who was only around 31 when he got his second ring) to see that quality of the QB and win totals don't always match.

What is interesting to me, is many here say how DJ needed support, OL, #1 WR, etc

Why has not one person acknowledged that DeVito too now has a #1 WR? Maybe he will be alot better with one, the OL now is still better than last years too.

Trench

No Andrew Thomas hurts any QB but especially a young QB. But yes I am looking for better things out of Devito with Nabers and Theo along with Hyatt.
