Which from the perspective of any individual on the said list with hopes of making the HOF, the situation is less than ideal.  When you have a high-quality list, it means many deserving people will be passed over.

It may be a lot of work but I'm interested in how many years each of the 25 were eligible.

I've long said that too many people get into the Hall of Fame, it's diluting the quality.

I think there needs to be a cut off of how many times one can be nominated. Holt has been nominated 11 times and not got in. That's crazy to think he'll eventually get in.

I can get behind that. If you're not in on the 10th try, it's a wrap.

The NFL limits the number to 5/year.  After a certain amount of time players can get in via a separate pool.

I feel like the Football HOF is the only one that isn't diluted.

Hockey certainly is. You only have to wait 3 years from retirement to get in and few stars need to wait years to get in. Baseball is the least diluted since they use a percentage system meaning some years as little as 1 player gets inducted. The list of great players not inducted is endless and that doesn't include the cheaters.

I thought baseball didn't have a limit on any given year. 

Btw, there are plenty of cheaters in the baseball hall.  Pretty sure in my lifetime I saw guys get kicked out of games for doctoring balls and then get into the HOF. 

This is purely my own feelings:

I have little use for HOFs. Most of the time, there aren't clearly defined criteria for entry, which negates the value.  Secondly, while I occasionally enjoy remembering great plays and players, my focus tends to be on the present.

To me, it's sort of like the old car shows that used to be all the rage (at least around where I have lived).  Interest in the old car shows sort of died out.  I suspect it was partly due to over-saturation, but I feel like old cars, in general, have limited interest.  No doubt it's interesting to the owners and restorers of old cars, but in reality, the old cars are not as good by most measures as current cars.  So, interest in old cars tends to be stronger for those who have fond memories of a particular car or dreamed (when they were younger) of owning a particular car (and now they can).

So, how does that long-winded commentary on car shows relate to the HOF?  Sure, I like remembering the Giants great and the true legends of the game.  On the other hand, a really good CB who played for the Rams 50 years ago or an offensive lineman who played for the Seahawks 30 years ago doesn't exactly spike my interest.

So, while I would probably visit the HOF if I happened to find myself in Canton, OH, I seriously doubt I would go out of my way to get there.

He is among the 9 finalists.  From what I could gather from the HOF website, they met yesterday to pick one to be added to the list I posted (along with the senior nominees).  From what I can tell, one of the 9 coaches was picked, but they have not announced who was selected.

I like the idea of having a HOF but I agree it has become a bit too inclusive.
