Look, I don't necessarily agree with the decision to start DeVito, but I think the HC should give the QB a confidence boost when all it takes is to say he is the man.   Daboll wouldn't be signing a contract, he could always change his mind, but I have to think a young QB would appreciate a show of support and confidence.

Here's something I've been thinking about: if the Giants are truly concerned about Drew Lock hitting any incentives in his deal, you could get rid of those concerns by starting DeVito for a game or two. If he plays well, then of course you don't need to turn to Lock and there's no incentive risk. If it goes badly for DeVito, you say you're making a change to Lock and just two games is likely to be enough to ensure the latter doesn't hit snap percentages or pass attempt minimums. It would look far worse if Lock was trending towards those incentives and you benched him right before he could get them for DeVito.

I'm not positive this is what they're doing, as we're probably only talking $250k-$1MM potentially off the 2025 cap, which likely doesn't make a difference since they're not likely to compete with a new QB at the helm. But its not out of the question.

While less impactful, it's worth noting that the number of snaps Lock takes negatively impacts the comp pick formula for NYG

The Giants have 3 bad QBs.  Well..now 4 I guess.  Does it really matter which bad QB they play?  They can't risk Jones getting hurt which is why he's now QB4.  Lock vs Devito is essentially a wash.  I don't think the incentives are the reason for Devito over Lock I think more likely they want to evaluate whether he's worth keeping around next season.  If they play him 2 or 3 games and its' enough of a run for them to come to the conclusion of "we don't need this guy next year either" then they can go to Lock at that point.  But if they go to Lock now and nothing of note really changes they've wasted any opportunity to evaluate Devito for 2025. 

Everything they're doing right now makes sense.  It may not be popular for guys who have enjoyed Jones in the locker room and his work ethic, (and to be honest bringing in Tim Boyle seems a little unecessary) but it's the right thing to be doing at this point. 

They never should have signed Jones to that contract in the first place and this isn't hindsight, most of us could see it in real time that was a dumb thing to do.  Regardless of where we want to blame we all can agree now that was a bad decision.  Right now they are doing what they can to make the best of it.  And if they can get a QB for next year via the draft preferably or otherwise, none of this will be remembered.   

Not an issue to me. Jones was the starter until he wasn't. Plans change. I don't think DeVito is looking past this week either. He's prepping, along with Daboll, for the Bucs.

Nothing wrong with Daboll not committing to Devito. He should have to earn everything he gets.

Step 1 was getting an opportunity.
Step 2 is playing decently.
Step 3 is getting a win.

I don't see a problem with this. DeVito wanted the opportunity, now he's got it. It's on him to play well enough to

A) Earn and keep his spot.
B) Win enough games to show that he can be the guy and the Giants don't have to draft a guy.
