Quote from: TDToomer on November 27, 2024, 10:50:49 AMI think you spelled The Cowboys wrong. Reason why is that for the past 5 days what was trending on SM was Jones to Dallas, learn the playbook in a day or 2, Log in a practice or 2, leap frog 2 QBs, and then start tomorrow to stick it to the Giants. People are just dumb.

I had read Eagles as a landing spot and with Barkley a good friend and his success there, I felt it was a potential spot.

I'm sure he will be an excellent mentor to JJ McCarthy. I wish him much success for a second shot at a starting role.

Also, the Giants will get a credit for his salary from the Vikings this year.

The Eagles already have a viable back QB in Kenny Pickett, who they just traded for in the offseason.  Phili was never a viable landing spot for DJ.

Ed,

Do you believe Minn will keep him as a backup for next season?

I think Sam Darnold will be looking to be a Franchise QB somewhere and will command a competitive salary of a 8-10 QB. With a year lost, they will want to fast track JJ to at least start at some point in 2025. DJ will cost about 5MM. what do you think?

Sounds plausible and logical to me, Ed.  I suspect they'll be some competition from SF and Mia, who will be looking for insurance for thier oft-injured Pro Bowl QBs...

So question to the group- does this make Sam Darnold a viable/potential target as a bridge QB for us?  ie in the scenario that we do not pick up a QB with our #1 pick but perhaps grab a QB with our early round 2 pick and develop them under Darnold?

If he continues on his current trajectory, I suspect he'll be seeking a deal that negates the possibility of bridge-type contract.

Negative for me - because like Jones, I think the NY pressure was part of the reason for his struggles

What could the Vikings have possibly seen in week 1 that made them say, "Oh yeah, that is the guy we want!"?

Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones?

He's basically free and a more capable backup than Nick Mullens. It's not that complex.

Best of luck to him. I hope he lights it up in Minny!
