Potential GM candidates for 2025 if Schoen is not brought back

For the record, I think Schoen will be back. Mara has basically already said that, and while his words were not a 100% guarantee, I think he is more likely than not to make good on them, especially after Schoen all but confirmed them in his mid-season press conference.

Moreover, Schoen has only had two bad years, whereas Dave Gettleman was kept here for four years and all four of them were bad.

Reese also had more than two bad years as GM before he was finally shown the door.

So I think it's unlikely Schoen goes after 2024, but if he does, here are some interesting candidates to potentially replace him, according to GiantsWire:

Sometimes the best disrupters to change are people not affiliated with it who bring a completely different perspective and way of doing things.  I am not convinced a football guy from somewhere in management, personnel, etc would be one of those guys.

That is an impressive list of candidates.


I firmly believe the best way moving forward isn't to debate if Schoen shouldn't be fired.  Rather, compare Schoen's resume with the other impressive candidates on the list.  Then, decide if Schoen is the best choice.

Frankly, I don't think Schoen makes the top two or three on this list. You have two graduates from Ivy League colleges and a couple of others with master's degrees.  In terms of mentors, there are choices who have learned under better GMs than Joe has.

I am not sure we need a disruptor as much as we need an intelligent, competent GM with a strong personality.

I was mot talking about Giants affiliation but NFL affiliation in general.  There are people great at building organizations across various industries and things.

I'm not so sure I would want someone that doesn't understand football. Too much of a learning curve IMHO.

I can't think of another business model where many of the employees earn more than the people they report to. The sports industry is like no other and, as such, there are dynamics and variables that exist only in the sports world that a non-sports business mind would have to learn how to navigate. He/she would be at a deficit coming in the door.
