I know this probably has been posted ad nauseum but I am watching the Eagles - Ravens game and I heard that Mekhi Becton, a first round choice of the Jets to play LT and failed there is now the starting guard on the Eagles . The Eagles have one of the bestr OL in the NFL had seen fit to pick up Becton and move him to guard.

Yet our team never even tried to see if Neal could become a servicable guard . Was it Schoen's hubris who did not want  to admit that he failed or was it Daboll's stuborness or Brisco ? Whatever once agsin it shows how disfuntional this teram is.

I have to agree. Especially at 2-9 or 2-10. I mean who cares at this point? Why not give it a try? The Giants made this mistake with Flowers and he ended up being a serviceable guard elsewhere. The odds are not high that Neal will suddenly be good elsewhere on the line, but there is zero downside in trying it.

But Daboll is coaching and Schoen is GM'ing for their jobs in these last few games according to some. 

On a serious note, I would try it.  But, we said the same thing about Flowers years ago and it was never done.  I know it is a different regime.  At this point, I don't care where he was drafted in terms of #pick or the position he played at the time.  Get the 5 best guys on the field and see if he can be one if he moves to Guard.

Yeah where he was drafted is irrelevant, and they should know that. This is about finding out if he has any viability at all as an NFL player before someone else does.

Becton is tall which folks say is mot good for a Guard.  Proving them wrong.  Neal should be tried there.

The time to do it is in the offseason, change his workout regimen, work on his lower body, and have him work with a trainer. Then insert him in the OTA's and offseason programs. Not while he's rehabbing from injury and tossed in the mix.

They are not going to exercise his 5th year option, so 2025 could be his last season here. So my question is, do you want to pay almost 8 million to a Guard project? Or cut him post June 1st and bite the bullet and let him go somewhere else to learn the G position for league minimum. Or continue on course and hope to get the fundamentals through to him. Because all his issues are on him translating to the live action.

It's going to come down to what they think about his work ethic and attitude, which has been reported as good. They might as well carry him this final season because either way, he gets paid.

I think if we dont resign Van Rotten ... he should at least be given a shot at RG .... the tackle experiment is over ... see if he has a second life at Guard

This is a phenomenal post and if any beat writers read this site can u PLEASE ask the coaches why this hasn't been on the table?...for them not to recognize what Brooklyn Dave has - makes me question our staff big time!

So we are going to yet let another good player go?

Trying Neal out at guard makes a lot of sense and has been mentioned many times here and on other sites.
Winning teams adjust and adapt. The Giants don't.

Very well summarized, Ed. He'd need the off-season, at the very least, to learn and adjust as well as get fully healthy. Briccilo should have the know-how to be able to pull it off.

All of this must be predicated on the Giants adding at least one Offensive Tackle, or perhaps two for depth.

The test of a good head coach, as well as a good offensive lineman coach, is taking a player who may not be working out at position A, but is a hard worker and willing to learn, and identify an opportunity to utilize the player at a different position B, and both parties make the effort to make it work.  As long as the Giants can find a replacement Tackle for Neal, there's no reason why they couldn't try.

Hopefully the Giants will accept the current state for what it is and move forward to determine if the opportunity exists fir Neal to become a serviceable Guard.

I hope we keep the week 1 starters intact .... The time they gave first portion of the season before Thomas went down is more  than enough for a good qb to play well

If we can get upgrades I'm all for it

But at a minimum keep the same starters and get a swing tackle unless Neal is that guy
