I always thought this would end up happening, but now it's finally official. I couldn't be more pumped about getting this guy.

Honestly thought he'd go back to the Bronx, but as a Met fan, I'm ecstatic. Biggest FA signing since Beltran.

$765 mm contract?  My God, that's insane!

His AAV is less than Trevor Lawrence's and Justin Herbert's.

Yankees fan here. Baseball needs a salary cap. This and what the Dodgers are doing is insanity.

He's a disgrace. Everything that's wrong with sports. Show some loyalty. Be like Eli.

I hope Soto chokes in the biggest of spots. He is a disgrace to the game. It's one thing to leave to another city but another to leave to an adjoining team all because of greed. He's a disgrace.

Cohen would make George Steinbrenner look cheap.

Steve Cohen is not messing around is he? Will it work? It rarely does but it certainly shakes up the landscape. Can the Mets bring back Alonso and Manaea and find another legitimate rotation arm? That is a big ask but to compete with the Dodgers they likely need all three (or equivalents if The Polar Bear and Sean go, possibly to the needled Yankees?!).
If you live your life as a pessimist you never really live your life at all.

When it comes to baseball, 1) I do not care about the money.  They do not have a salary cap.  2) This is not basketball where the offense runs through the big dog every trip down the court.  He only gets 1/9 of the teams ABs.  With that in mind, probably ordering a Soto t-shirt today.

Loyalty to who though? The Nationals or the Padres? The Yankees were his 3rd team and shortest tenure among the 3 so why would have have to just be loyal to them?

The Eli's of sports are getting rarer and rarer and it is a 2 way street between the players and management. When the Giants are letting almost every player they drafted leave in free agency where exactly is their loyalty?

Replace "disgrace" with "free market capitalist."

Can he buy the Giants, please?

While I would love an owner with deep pockets like Cohen it would only help attract and pay for better coaches and assistants. He would still be hamstrung by the salary cap and would need a capologist to manage his spending at the same level playing field as the other 31 owners. There is no real advantage to being Cohen rich in the NFL once you finally own the team. Just ask the Panthers fans when they will start winning with Dave Tepper's money?

Disgrace why ?  Did you watch the Yankees this year?  That team was barely held together and went through a xxxx AL to get to the WS.  If the Yankees signed Soto, that's it. That's all they have now.  They wouldn't be able to build the team because the Yankees can't spent like they used to and they keep idiots like Cashman and Boone around. Soto got his bag but the future is brighter with the Mets than the Yankees.  Baseball is harder when you're not the top spender isn't it ? I want a cap also and a floor but finally have an owner that doesn't give a crap how much he spends and we have people to make the right moves too. I don't want a WS ring this way if it happens but I'm not gonna say no. As a Giants fan I def need all the sports love I can get. Can't blame Hal really on this he tried and understand the saltiness but welcome to how the rest of the league felt for decades.
Get busy livin ,  or get busy dying.

Did you cry about his loyalty when he left the nationals and the padres?

Or is it just because you're salty he's left for the Mets?
