Why would a 70+ year old guy want to get involved with NIL, recruiting and the headaches that come with coaching 17-21 year olds?  I'll believe it when I see it

That has disaster written all over it. I'd love to see the grumpy grandpa on the recruiting trail.

I'm wondering the same thing. Hard to believe this is really possible, but I have seen crazier things in my life.

Because he wants to coach and can't find a job in the NFL.

Considering the age of his girlfriend it all makes sense now.  :smug:

Maybe he's throwing bait in the water to see what kind of action he gets in the NFL. This could start a flurry of activity, or perhaps it could be the end of the road in the NFL and the only coaching he'll be able to do is in college.

I don't believe he'll coach a college team.

I think he's smart like a fox. He's definitely become more media friendly and began chipping away at the "stoic" disposition he's had for the majority of his head coaching career.

Just a thought Big Blue fans...

Still hoping he'll come home to the Giant faithful...

He doesn't have to go out oin the recruiting trail. he can hire top recruiting assistants and just close the deal. John Wooden did not go out recruiting , assistants did it .

What can be assured is that UNC would have a top defense and as a Duke grad that is not encoraging .

That said, Belichick would have major trouble with the portal and the NIH money. That is probably the reason Nick Saban left college coaching. I would be shocked if Belichick winds up at a college.

If Ryan Day at Ohio State is let go , which seems unlikely , Mike Vrabel is being talked about as a replacement there.

Sportskeddda(?) is reporting he accepted job. Well I got that wrong!

Good. We can finally stop this ridiculous suggestion of hiring a soon to be 73 year old head coach.

Report: Bill Belichick has offer to coach UNC

The ball is in Bill Belichick's court.

The long-time NFL coach — who worked at that level every year from 1975 through 2023 — is considering an offer to become the next head coach at North Carolina, according to TheAthletic.com.

Belichick has acknowledged the talks with the Tar Heels. With the cat out of the bag for nearly a week now, any other NFL owner or college program that has interest in hiring Belichick needs to move, quickly.

Per the report, negotiations are ongoing. Obviously, Belichick will want a large chunk of change to coach the team. There's also a belief he's hoping to create a succession plan, with his son, Steve, replacing Bill at some point while Bill serves as coach emeritus, essentially.

Combined with Belichick's plan to create a program that will essentially prepare players for the NFL, it would basically be Belichick University.

Which hopefully will go better than other universities that have carried the names of other prominent individuals.

Maybe his girlfriend has friends there

I think it's entirely possible the story was floated with relevance from the Bellichick camp to see if any back channels exist on potential future opportunity from Mara.

There have been suggestions that this whole thing is Belichick trying to get commitment for an NFL job this season.  For that to happen, though, an owner would have to essentially violate the Rooney rule, and if the whole thing ever came to light, the team in question would be in big trouble with the league.

Bellichick has been brazen in the past. Remember the text messages he sent to the wrong person. So there is precedent that Back channel engaging does happen with him
