I'm watching Eli/Payton with Bill.

Peyton really seems to have a feel for the flow of the game (you can see how quickly he recognizes things).

I'd love to see him as our OC

Ed Vette

He's too busy paint'in.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."
~ Coach Tom Coughlin

Fascinating to watch him. He's a second faster noticing things than all the other experts on the show

The history of star players becoming coaches is not an impressive one.

I would guess Peyton has zero interest in being a coach.  I think he is enjoying his limited time commitments at this point and will never go down that road.  Coaches spend almost their entire waking hours on football.  He did that as a player and really has no reason to do it in retirement.

That's why I basically started the thread. Watching the guy passion and how quickly he notices things in real time (combined with how he communicates "why" this or that should be called) is mesmerizing (and I was never a huge Peyton guy) in terms of a fan. Always respected him though.

Maybe not stars but some solid NFL players have become head coaches with varying degrees of success.

The absolute brilliance of Peyton and Eli Manning, post-football career, is their marketability which allows them to make money, hand-over-fist, above what they earned in their playing days. If it isn't "Paintin'" Manning, or Eli selling hot sauce or those yummy Hawaiian rolls, they have their own MNF TV show, they host their own respective documentaries (i.e. "Peyton's Places" and "Eli's Places") and are always looking into new opportunities.

I believe both Mannings had made it clear, a few years ago, that they were interested in getting into NFL ownership. I don't know if anything's been discussed about that recently; however, I believe it is still on their long-term radar one day.

Peyton can literally write his own ticket in whatever capacity he wants to in the NFL. Ownership, most likely a minority owner, is his next stretch goal. Eli still has his ties to the Giants and that's still working out well for him. Eventually, I would imagine, as both Mannings sense the opportunity is approaching for them to establish a partnership with an investment group, whose purpose is to buy an interest in an NFL team, Eli will end his current role with the Giants, and both will be going all-in on what they really want to do next.

For now, I sense they are biding their time and filling the piggy bank while waiting for an opportunity. Maybe they have an investment group all set up and ready to go and are waiting for the next opportunity to strike; who knows?

But I agree that Peyton and even Eli both would make excellent coaches and they already are through their camps and other opportunities for kids' development.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Donny,

No doubt, there are former players who go on to have successful coaching careers.  It's why I specifically mention stars, as you don't see that happening nearly as often.
