Convicted Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro is as shady as they come. But he also has undeniable connections at the University of Miami.

So take what he says with a heaping mound of salt, but he says Cam Ward to the Giants is a lock. But that's not even the most interesting detail. He goes on to say that it's a package deal including Hurricanes OC Shannon Dawson.

Some background on Dawson:

I've posted several times about my lack of interest in Ward. He has sketchy mechanics, has a gunslinger mentality that leads to bad decisions, and he's not all that great with his legs.

And the idea of the Giants bringing in a QB along with his college OC is the type of bold move that is very much not the Giants M.O.

But even while I'm not a fan of Ward, I do find myself intrigued by the boldness of the rumor.

Will be interesting to see if there's any truth in it.

If true, it checks two of my boxes: get a new QB and OC.

It's not even certain who will be deciding the pick, and at this time of year no team has decided who they will draft.

Completely disagree with the notion that a team expected to draft in the top 3 (especially when QBs are involved) has never made their decision early in the process if things end up shaking out as expected.

Which doesn't mean that it's true in this case. But to say it's never happened? I'd bet the farm that's not true.

And further, Schoen is coming back. Something else I'd bet the farm on.

Teams haven't interviewed prospects, they haven't tested them, they haven't been measured, and teams haven't seen them work out.

Do you honestly believe that off-the-record conversations don't happen between NFL execs and top draft prospects, even before their senior year?

Do you really think NFL teams don't have connections with college coaching staffs and can't easily get their hands on up-to-date measurements of top prospects?

And do you believe that NFL teams don't have access to an abundance of college practice tape, game tape, offseason workout tapes that provide far more insights that any 2-hour workout that they run might?

Not saying that teams deciding early is common and - as I've acknowledged - there are scenarios that make this type of rarity more realistic. But to say it's never happened is highly unlikely.

We don't even know the draft order yet. Theoretically, though unlikely, the Giants could fall down to 7 or so. Hell, they almost won this week.

I would expect talks and the Giants having discussions, but there are too many moving parts to have anything in stone. I do think if Cam and Shedeur are on the board when the Giants pick, they would pick Cam. So, does a Coach make an agreement like that, and not lose their job if things go south? Sounds like someone overheard something inside and ran with it.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I doubt the veracity of this report and I might open a vein if it comes to pass.  Ward has bust written all over him.

The Giants barely know what they're going to do next Sunday and I'm expected to believe they know everything they're going to do next April? Call me skeptical.

Five games before end of season?  Nothing has been mentioned orbdecided at this time.

Can you imagine if true and Ward flamed out like Ryan Leaf?  Imagine the crap the Giants made that before evaluating everyone they decided Ward was their pick.

which is exactly why I like the idea.  Giants M.O. is just no longer working.

I'd be down for it

I do not believe this for a second though.

When I read the reports on Ward, I get a Jamis Winston vibe

Minus the crab legs and scripture, of course.
