Quote from: Trench on December 12, 2024, 10:29:20 AMDon't put it past Bill to leave NC even before he starts if a "better" opportunity arises

Between his age and his reputation of wanting to have the organization run his way, it seems unlikely an NFL team will make a strong push for him.   For example, the Falcons showed interest last year.   However, the Falcon's front office, fearing loss of control and potentially their jobs, was able to put up a strong counter-campaign that convinced the owner to pass on him.   Of course, the lack of success by the Falcons suggest the self preservation move may not have been in the team's best interest.

Agreed.

I'm just pointing out it has happened in the past with the man.

yes I have ...my daughter lives in Wake Forest and married a Raleigh guy . Been going down there for 20 plus years ...very nice area ....I have been to UNC for football a couple of Times and went to UNC vs.North Carolina State one year lots of fun.
Great place for young people    ...lots of good jobs and lots to do....
actually Bill Cower retired to that area after football I believe.
Think Bill will have a UNC alumni come back talk to his team ....you know #56   LT. they are good friends.

Quote from: MightyGiants on December 12, 2024, 08:19:18 AMI suspect that Belichick will enjoy success.  First, he is a better coach than most of the coaches he is facing.  Second, I think the lure of playing for one of the greatest coaches of all time, will help with the recruiting battles (fully appreciating that these days money talks).   I think the pitch that Belichick will prepare you for a successful NFL career will be a good one.

I can imagine Bill taking advantage of 8 Super Bowl rings to wow recruits and families alike.

The only thing I am curious to see is if Bill will pull exclusively from his NFL connections to fill out his staff, or will he have the wisdom to hire some top college people to help him gain insights into the new landscape he will be operating on.

You do realize that players are limited to 20 hours a week? That includes practice, weight room, film study, position meetings, time with the trainer and several other things. The idea that Belichek can go as far into the weeds as he did in the NFL in game prep isn't realistic. What made him great in the NFL doesn't necessarily transfer to college. I don't have a horse in this race and don't care if he succeeds or fails but D1 football is not the NFL.

As they say, "that's why they play the games".  My confidence that Bill will do well is not that strong.  I could see Bill flaming out in spectacular fashion as well.  The only thing I am pretty sure about is BB's tenure in the college ranks should be interesting.

Who cares? He does. $30 Million guaranteed at his age makes him a winner- period.

Cheers!

UNC should be a CFP relevant program due to proximity to so many top 150 recruits, the leading public university in their own state which has a boatload of talent, a wealthy alum base, great academics, etc.  Kudos to UNC for trying something so different.  Now bring in Nick Saban as DC.  :)
