Quote from: AZGiantFan on December 15, 2024, 11:13:50 PMBecause it's not just the QB.  Is there really any part of the team and roster that has seen significant improvement during their regime?  Surely the complete deterioration of the whole team since the "glory days" of the deeply misleading 2022 can't be excused by laying it at Daniel Jones' feet?

This is the real question.  There still seems to be this idea that this roster has a ton of talent being held back by the QB play.

Personally I think that argument doesn't hold water.  For example, QB play has nothing to do with their ranking of 30/32 in yielding yards per carry.  Nor does it account for being 29/32 in opponent's passer rating.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

This defense has 2 interceptions in 14 games.  Obviously dead last in the NFL.

The only argument to keep Daboll is that he should have his own QB to nurture is about as weak as it gets three years in. The Giants are bad, and have been very bad in every phase of the game. I've been vocal about the QB situation from day one, but when they hired the dynamic duo, they did it all wrong from the get go. Keeping them just perpetuates the mistake.

You also lived thru Wilderness I, and what was the trademark of all those years, terrible QB play and we went through coaches like we are doing now. Once we secured a good QB, seemed those Wilderness years seemed to leave in a hurry. Coaches, for the most part, are only as good as the talent they have to work with. As I have said, did BB forget how to coach once he lost Brady and was saddled with incompetent QBs, Can you say the same thing about Shula, Noll, and even Allie Sherman? Were these once-great coaches, now bums because they just didn't have competent players?

So who is out there that will be a better HC? The ONLY one I MIGHT want in here is Vrabel. Anyone else is again, the hot guy of the year. If not Vrabel, I stay with Daboll and a new QB. Schoen needs another year.

Fran Tarkenton didn't solve the problem.   George Young and Parcels/Perkins did

I understand the idea of stability but it's hard to justify when in year three you're looking at one of the worst seasons if not the worst in franchise history.  The argument just can't be stability.  There has to be reason you believe in these two.  Frankly, they need Mara not interfering and someone in here to hire the correct people and orchestrate turning things around.

With a HUGE assist by a draft pick named Lawrence Taylor.

Peace!

snow ball effect.  QB play killed them in the first half of the season.  Would have been 6-2 if they had even below average QB play by NFL standards.  Instead, it was 2-6 and went from there.

Quote from: LennG on December 15, 2024, 07:21:20 PMDo you really think all these losses are on the coaching staff or the GM?
Sure, we suck, but really, as the announcers said, even the hardcore fans are having a hard time knowing who these guys are. When half your team, especially the starters are on IR, and we are playing with a QB who really should be bagging groceries somewhere, that might have some impact.

Does firing the coaching staff mean we will win more games? If Parcels, BB, and Vince Lombardi were coaching now, we would still lose by 17 every week.

Bad, sloppy, undisciplined play leads to injuries. You see it all the time. We are not smooth, we are not working in unison. I'm tired of the injury excuses. We are getting injured because we suck. Every team deals with injuries sure, but when you are this sloppy its going to happen more. We were 10+games into the season before the injury bug REALLY hit. No excuses.

Of course it's not on just Jones. As I have said many times before, he's (QB) the straw that stirs the drink. He directly affects how the offense performs.

- Passing accuracy
- Timing on throws
- Field vision
- Pocket presence and awareness
- Mobility
- Improvisation
- Patience

With a better QB, maybe Hyatt is more involved, along with Theo and Robinson.

Maybe a better QB doesn't take as many sacks and completes more intermediate-to-deep throws, which keeps the offense from being vanilla and predictable.

With a better QB, maybe we put TDs on the board and get out to leads, which helps the defense because it makes the other offense one-dimensional.

Of course, all of that is speculation just based on what we know of basic football. It's not about Schoen and Daboll themselves per se, but the jobs they were hired but not fully allowed to do.

I don't have a crystal ball or know more than the guys who are paid to do it. Just sharing my views if I were making the decisions. I could be way off and it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

I absolutely have to write this one down in my book of football heuristics. It literally deserves its own page.

I'm having one of my "I could have had a V8 moments" right about now.

Thank you!

Peace!
