People talk about retread coaches, look at the Commanders coaching staff. Their head coach is Dan Quinn, would this forum have wanted him if he was available this year (before his Commanders stint)? Kliff Kingsbury is the OC, he probably fits here the best than as a HC so I wonder who's that failed HC that is a good OC? Brian Johnson is the passing game coordinator, the OC who every Eagles fan wanted shipped to China. Anthony Lynn is the running game coordinator who everyone agreed was the worst coach in the NFL way back then. Imagine of the Giants set up this coaching staff this season, how much confidence would there be? Except it worked because maybe they fit into these smaller roles, plus they got a franchise QB.

What combination do you think would be the comp if the Giants were to assemble a similar coaching staff in 2025?

The team and fan base that enjoyed two Super Bowl wins with the tired, old retread hire Tom Coughlin has lost its right to credibly diss retreads after having gone through hot young coordinators like Ben McAdoo, Joe Judge, and Brian Daboll.

A good coach is a good coach. Not a guy from central casting.

They just have not hired good coaches. Simple as that. Who heard of Sean McVay before he became a coach?

You missed the point.

I am not saying don't hire a coordinator. I'm saying don't try to fit your hire to a certain typecast.

I agree.

I was pulling for Dan Quinn when he was available. His team may have had an epic collapse in the SB, but he did get them to the SB!
He is a good, hard nosed, defensive minded coach and I think he would have been a great fit for the Giants.
As DB said, a good coach.
