The franchise is an unmitigated disaster. The record (not just this year but over the past 11) speaks for itself. What exactly do you want him to say that will make any of that better? Would you prefer that he write some long BS letter full of false promises and conjecture?

Dear [Fan's Name],

Thank you for your letter and for taking the time to share your thoughts. I've read your concerns, and I want you to know that I share your frustration. As the owner of the New York Giants, there is nothing more important to me than seeing this team succeed on the field and making our fans proud. Over the past decade, however, we have fallen far short of those expectations, and for that, I sincerely apologize.

Our record over the last several years speaks for itself. While we've had moments of hope, they have been overshadowed by prolonged stretches of disappointment and, as you put it, futility. As an organization, we owe you—our loyal fans—better. You deserve a team that consistently competes at the highest level and a leadership structure that puts us in the best position to win.

That's why I am making a commitment to address the root causes of our struggles by taking bold, overdue steps to ensure this team is on the right path moving forward. The first of these steps will be hiring a seasoned and highly competent team president to oversee all aspects of football operations.

For too long, we've relied on the same processes and internal perspectives, and it's clear that this approach is no longer sufficient. Bringing in a president with the experience, vision, and leadership to chart a new course is essential to restoring our competitive edge. This individual will have the authority to evaluate every part of our football operations, from coaching and scouting to player development and organizational culture.

This decision reflects my acknowledgment that the status quo is not acceptable and that meaningful change is necessary. We will conduct a thorough and deliberate search to ensure we find the right person to lead this franchise into the future.

I understand that words alone do not fix the frustrations you and countless other fans feel. The only way to regain your trust and support is through actions that result in tangible improvement on the field. I promise you that I am fully committed to seeing this process through, and I will not stop until the New York Giants are once again a franchise that represents excellence.

Thank you for your passion and for sticking with us through these difficult years. It is your unwavering support that drives us to be better. Together, we will turn this around and bring the Giants back to where they belong: at the top of the NFL.

Sincerely,
John Mara

I just want the team to start making better decisions and to start winning. What our coaches say in press conferences and what our owner puts in letters doesn't move the needle for me at all as long as we continue to suck.

Apparently her rant went viral and she received the attention she was looking for. She dressed him down in public. "Look what I did!"

She gave a voice to thousands of frustrated fans.  She also warned Mara that fan patience is wearing thin.  Mara can ride past glory for only so long.  Mara's response suggests that he didn't listen to what she had to say.  I fear we are in for more of the same.

I think Mara deserves to feel some public humiliation about what this franchise has become under his watch. Simply put, he collects a hell of a lot of money from the public, many of whom are working class individuals living paycheck to paycheck, or something maybe just above that. If it were a charity I might feel differently, but it is not. I feel he has exhibited too much hubris by insisting on inserting himself into football decisions to the degree that he does, when he is clearly unqualified to be doing that.

So I have no issues with the letter that was written (in fact I thought it was excellent), nor does it bother me at all that people fly embarrassing sky-writing over the stadium on home game days (in fact I love that this is happening as it might affect some element of change). I just personally don't think Mara needed to write some long letter in response to this woman. Most owners wouldn't have responded at all. Just my opinion. I respect others feel differently.

I can't help but feel that we are giving Mara too much credit by responding.  There was absolutely nothing in Mara's letter that suggests he actually read her letter.  His response could apply to pretty much every negative letter Mara would receive.  His response seemed like a form letter his administrative people put out to make it appear like Mara is listening.

What exactly is the man supposed to say?

The way I read the letter he is basically saying, "you're right, we suck"

That's fair but I am hardly trying to prop Mara up. In my first post on this matter I made it explicitly clear that I excuse nothing about the absolutely horrible job he is doing overall. For me it's more just that I don't think he is under some obligation to write some long, highly thoughtful letter to this woman. For one, doing it for her would mean he probably ought to do it for everyone, or at least any longtime season ticket holder. And as another point, I doubt any owner even acknowledges angry letters from fans, period. If one wants to argue that ghosting her would have been better than writing a short letter, that is fine. I don't personally agree with that, but I also don't feel strongly enough about any of this to really care either way. I am generally in the "talk is cheap" camp on stuff like this.

I would argue the canned letter is another example of the mediocrity that has firmly implanted itself at 1925 Giants Way.   I mean, how much extra effort would it have taken to thank her family for the years of being a season ticket holder or some sort of acknowledgment that you actually read the letter and that the response wasn't "canned"?  It's well within the wheelhouse of a competent staff member to add a personal touch to a response.

I'm sure his staff followed up with her and she got free passes to Club Seats and that shut her up.

Quote from: Section 101 Steve on December 27, 2024, 07:48:29 PMGreat letter by giants girl and the usual lousy response via form letter by John Mara. Hey John, if you're gonna respond back at least have the courtesy to actually respond instead of signing your name to a callus form letter. Great letter and an embarrassing response back.Ive had season tickets since the new stadium opened and if not for my kids and grandchildren enjoying to go see a giants football game I would have given them up already.

You are the epitome of a true, dedicated, invested Giants fan who has passed your love to your family. I admire and respect you, and the many others just like you, who remind me of my late father who had season tickets dating back to Yankee Stadium and who rode the tidal wave through the Yale Bowl and Shea Stadium before finally calling Giants Stadium "home away from home (which was only down the Turnpike, Exit 13)."

It is folks, such as you, who are invested in Mara's "family business," who need to make your voice heard to Mr. Mara and Mr. Tisch. Your voices ring louder than the rest of us and you CAN make a difference by writing them and help flood their mailboxes to let them know you still care but time is running out.

Thank you on behalf of all of us Giants' fans situated throughout this country, and world, who only get to see them when they visit our town, but we still show up like we did when we grew up in the area.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Not much, but then how would you feel if he did that but then subsequently didn't respond to other angry letters from people who have had season tickets for decades? Are those people less important than this woman? Should Mara be spending hours every week in his office crafting 1500 word, personalized responses to every angry fan letter from long time season ticket holders?

Excellent letter and the response was essentially a non-response. Its almost as if Mara has a form response to these types of fan letters.
