Nothing but considering our situation I would not be against him being given a shot

Then again I was against him being our first round pick... a 2nd round pick I may be willing

Depends on the price.  Texans won the division with him, a weak division.  Not sure he is a QB then can win a Super Bowl though.

Trade down this year, we still will probably have a top 3-5 pick. Stack our 2 1st round picks next year for the best qb available in that draft even if its the #1 pick. I HATE doing this, as it can REAALLLLLLY set you back.. but if we play ourselves out of contention next year we may have no choice. I cant imagine we will be this bad again next year, which basically means this will have to be the answer.

If they are picking 4th-7th, who is giving up a 1st next year to swap with them?  What player is the trade partner trading up to get?

y_so_blu

Well, we sure as hell don't trade up. Neither Ward nor Sanders merits that kind of risk IMO (assuming that bringing the Sanders' traveling circus here was ever an option).

This is why I said, again and again, that 2024 was the year to move on from Jones and draft a quarterback. We didn't. And sure enough, nine months later we are just where I feared we would be: near the bottom of the league, with a much weaker class to pick from at the most important position.

Now we essentially have to take BPA or trade down for a haul, settling for a Ewers or Milroe in the second round to see if they'll amount to something.

Responding to the question in the OP:

What's wrong with going with the guy who put up 45 beepin' points against the Colts? Use the picks to give him good protection and perhaps another receiver. Or consider the defensive squad.

Regards, and Happy New Year!

There's nothing on his resume that suggests he's capable of half of that on a consistent basis. And the Colts weren't even trying to tackle anyone.

What are they going to do at QB next year?  In a word: Suck.

They are going to suck at QB next year and it's their own fault.  They will choose their preference from a variety of bad options and ultimately stink like they always do.

My best guess? Lock sticks around and they draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round who will end up starting after Lock plays like...well...his own lousy self for a couple months.  That rookie will bring excitement right up until we actually see him play and then some of us will know immediately he's not any good but the team around him isn't too bad so they'll continue to lose as he gains experience until ultimately winning 2 games in December to push them out of the Arch Mannning sweepstakes and convince our buffoon owner that the QB is "turning a corner" or "just needs a little more help" so we'll do the Daniel Jones dance for 3 more years wasting the primes of Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas in the process, Nabers will get fed up and leave as a free agent to go to a team with a real QB and put up a Saquon type season for them, and then we'll find ourselves right back where we started as per usual.

It seems like the best hope the Giants have at this point is signing a veteran like Fields and then drafting a day-two quarterback like Dart, and hoping for the best.

The reality is the Giants are joining the no-QB club.  Members include the Raiders, Saints, Titans, Jets, and Browns.  You might toss the Colts in that group as it's becoming less likely Anthony Richardson will prove to be a franchise QB. The Panthers are another potential member, as Young is certainly still a question mark.

I would LOVE to have Bryce Young right now compared to their current options.  It's funny because before the trade deadline had they made an offer for Young, when he had just been benched for Dalton, they could probably have gotten him for peanuts.  Then all of a sudden, starting with a game against the Giants pitiful defense, he turns a corner, gains some confidence, and now seems to be at the very least serviceable and trending up.  Oh man to have any sort of hope at that position even just a little bit of it. Must be nice.

They say the QB class next year will be a good one, but that doesn't mean we will be able to draft them either. We would probably win the last game of the season to keep that away from us.

As I have said several times, if I were Schoen, I would be on the horn to the Vikings, seeing what they want for McCarthy. We will have a very high #1. maybe even higher than where they drafted him. Throw in a 5th for next year and make the deal. He is better than anyone from this year's draft. If we knew then what we know now, he might be a Giants right now.

Hi Lenn.

Doesn't calling the Vikings for their young, untested QB remind you, in any way, of Ali Sherman selling the farm for Fran Tarkenton? At least he was a known commodity and the Giants did improve with him, from "1966" to average plus "1970."

Is it worth selling the farm again?

Query your thoughts on that.

Peace!

There's nothing wrong with your idea. But for every Colts performance, can he walk back his Falcons performance and figure out why he threw two (2) pick-six plays that looked like they were gift-wrapped in black, red and gold? That's the frustration of Giants fans right there, and we all know there was more to the plays than just his throws. Still, Lock has to be smarter and not make those throws and, especially so, on the road, in a dome, against a southern team who loves to hate on New York.

He still needs to mature his game. But, that being said, if the Giants are pushing ahead with this group of leaders and coaches, and they hire a bridge QB, Lock will have a year in the system and have every opportunity to compete. The rest is up to him.

Right now, it's a holding pattern until the final drafting order is locked. Let's see where they pick and we can all speculate from there what permutations of options that might be available.

Haven't seen you post here so, if you're new, welcome and Happy New Year to you as well!!!

Warmest regards!

Peace!

Getting Tarkington was a good move at the time but Fran was at the end of a great career. Getting a rookie like McCarthy who now has sat for a year learning the NFL and only has an upside. And I don't think trading our #1 is selling the farm. We would draft McCarthy in a heartbeat in this upcoming draft over any of the QBs out there now so what's the problem offering our #1 for him now.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Len,

If you were Vikings GM and you had a ton of cap space next year (they have over $60 million), would you tag Darnold and keep JJ, OR would you trade away JJ for a first-round pick and hope Darnold can repeat his magic next year?

MrGap92

I'd keep both if finances allow them to keep both and retain most of the core. They typically draft well enough, and Darnold likely will not succeed elsewhere. Let JJ sit another year, get healthy and go from there. He needs the time on the bench and would be do best in a Jordan Love type of timeline.
