If you were Vikings GM and you had a ton of cap space next year (they have over $60 million), would you tag Darnold and keep JJ, OR would you trade away JJ for a first-round pick and hope Darnold can repeat his magic next year?
In the middle of that same conversation at work right now. My stance is that I tag Darnold to see if he can do it again and keep McCarthy on the bench. It's a win-win. Only monkey wrench is if Darnold leaves for a huge contract with another team.

If they tag him, that's not a possibility.   I can't see the Vikings parting ways with Darnold for an unproven draft pick after such a successful season.

I'm not following... what's not a possibility?

JJ was drafted to be the starter. Darnold was supposed to be the backup. After six seasons, he's a one-season wonder. Make him prove it again. No need to give him a big contract off of one season, like, *cough cough* another team did.

Tim,

You said you would tag Darnold (which is what I would do as well).   If Darnold is tagged, I doubt another team will give up two draft picks to sign him away from the Vikings.

Oh OK, I follow now. You're right, I don't think a team would do that either.

What's wrong with going with the guy who put up 45 beepin' points against the Colts? Use the picks to give him good protection and perhaps another receiver. Or consider the defensive squad.

Regards, and Happy New Year!

Go, Big Blue!

If Lock was capable of doing this consistently .... he would be a starting QB on a Playoff team somewhere

You can say the same for Jones in a PLAYOFF game vs Minny

Stringer Bell

Jalen Milroe already with a fumble, INT, and took a sack on 4th down - all in the first 10 minutes of the game. And all with Michigan missing their 3 best defensive players.

The top of this QB class is awful.

Stringer Bell

Sorry. Make that 2 sacks and 2 fumbles for Milroe. Still in the 1st quarter.

Woody

Giants will have to sign a good FA Qb.  Draft one in round two or three....if there is one that may have a chance....draft line man on both sides of ball.  Add depth with best player available regardless of position

Quote from: killarich on December 30, 2024, 03:33:09 PMAnd do we really want to be mildly good next season ?

Lets say we get a bridge QB , and we end up 7-10, 6-11..... we are once again stuck in that weird portion of the draft... with no Franchise QB in sight ... All we are doing is wasting rookie contract years on players like Nabers, Theo, Banks and even Wandale

I don't think Sanders and Ward are trade up players... but if we don't go after them we could be in QB hell for the next decade ..... or we can keep sucking and winning meaningless games in December and going through this ALL OVER again

In all seriousness... what do we do for next season and the future

We can get Fields .... but honestly WTF does that do for the franchise ? If he and Nabers click but wen only win 6 games what are we really doing here ?

I think at this point its either trade up for Sanders/Ward or give money to a big name QB ... but we have no options besides maybe Darnold and that is unlikely

We are truly is a terrible situation right now .... A bridge QB when you really look at it completely impedes on building a good team ... because we will just have to resign these rookies (or lose them) then the whole "Having good players on the cheap" goes out the window

The O-line was NOT the problem when healthy ..... the defense could use a CB1 .....

But the offensive failure was 75% due to bad QB play... and I was a HUGE DJ fan...

But again what is truly the end game here ? Do we roll with Lock go 3-13 again then hope for another rookie QB next season ? With that we once again risk losing meaningless games

This meaningless win hurt this team.... but I think we either go all in at QB this season or we just roll with Devito and tank... but that is depressing

Thoughts ?
Sorry but I disagree. The offensive line is the problem. PFF has had them rated 27th and the Pro Football Network had them 29th. Take away the decent run blocking scores and you once again have one of the worst pass blocking OLs in football. They were dead last in pass blocking last year and are vying for that award again this year.
