The Giants might have something in Drew Lock. It sounds crazy to most Giant fans who have become so cynical, but just 2 years ago the Carolina Panthers, an even more dysfunctional team than the Giants, had both Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield at the same time.  Both of those QBs are in the top half in QBR and both are leading their teams to the playoffs.  We have seen Castoffs like Geno, Darnold and Baker all become solid players.  And guess what Drew Lock is 28 years old, Baker is 29 and Sam is 27.  All took time to hit their stride. Draft the two best guards and watch what happens. Lock takes the pressure of drafting a QB this year. It also allows the GM to trade down and add draft capitol, we need them.

Personally, I would say this would be insane. I would not want to start the next season with Lock as my starting QB.
BUT, think what might happen if he has another great game next week.

I shudder at the thought. Sorry.  :surprise:  :surprise:  :surprise:  :surprise:  :surprise:
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

He just had a historically great game.  If he has another game similar to Payton Manning/Tom Brady/Lamar Jackson at their absolute best, i'll be pretty pumped about him as the starter next season.  If he bombs in 2025, well there is always the 2026 draft.

Chiefs - Mahomes not on a rookie contract (original team)
Lions - Goff not on a rookie contract
Bills - Allen not on a rookie contract (original team)
Eagles - Hurts not on a rookie contract (original team)
Ravens - Jackson not on a rookie contract (original team)
Rams - Stafford not on a rookie contract
Texans - CJ Stroud, on a rookie contract
Vikings - Darnold not on a rookie contract
Steelers - Wilson not on a rookie contract
Commanders - Daniels, rookie on a rookie contract
Chargers - Herbert on his rookie deal 5th year option this year
Packers - not on a rookie contract (original team)

4 out of the top 12 teams don't have a QB they drafted
3 on their Rookie contract
5 on their big contract with the teams that drafted them

To the surprise of no one, it does seem that drafting the right QB helps with the probability of success for a decade (rookie contract + next contract) and a major reason some of us would rather the Giants lose and have a higher probability of drafting a QB with a top 5 pick.

However, I highlighted the above to show that a rookie contract, such that other positions can eat up cap space, aren't necessary to reach the playoffs (though maybe necessary to prevent an early career failure of the rookie QB).  A free agent pathway to the playoffs can happen too.  With the Giants unlikely to draft a QB now that they are outside the top 3, maybe Lock and adding a good supporting player with a top 10 pick gives them either the best chance next season at winning or losing better.  With that in mind, lets root for Lock's success next week.

Lock's great game came off the coattails of Nabors athletic endeavors and YAC too.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Given where we are drafting, it's likely we will be stuck with Lock next year, but there should be a QB we can draft in later rounds.

President Rick

exactly, AYM.  a bridge qb - Lock if it works that way, or a reasonably priced FA [i.e. not darnold] - and we can get a good prospect [mine is Will Howard] in rd. 2-3 this year or if that flops, use a 1st rounder in 26 or 27.  It will take 2-3 years to rebuild anyway.  We have SO many other needs and only o much $$ and so many draft picks.  Shop wisely.

What about all the other games he started this season?  What about just the previous week with 2 pick sixes where he was so bad it almost seemed like he was in on the idea to Tank.  What about his pitiful career prior to joining the Giants?  I agree that if he has another game like last week against the Eagles practice squad our idiot owner is going to fall in love and decide this is the QB of the future if for no other reason than they don't have many other options if he's not.  It's terrifying.  It's also a likely scenario. But make no mistake about it, he could have a game even better than last week agains the Eagles and it still won't mean he's any good.

I would also give more credit to Nabers than Lock for that performance.  I think it's also worth giving a considerable amount of the credit for the game to the terrible DC Gus Bradley and his equally putrid defense.

Lock will not have the luxury of facing no resistance ever week he plays.
