Not a fluke, but for Darnold to be successful he needs to be on a team loaded with talent and strong coaches. I don't believe he would be as successful with the Giants as he would be with 49ers, Vikings, Lions etc...I proposed him at the beginning of the season because he was a cheap option at the time and thought he would be an upgrade to Jones, Lock and Cutlets. Again, that ship has sailed, too expensive now, we have other options

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 31, 2024, 05:08:20 PMWho's down on JJ? Did I miss something? It would be monumentally stupid for the Vikings to trade him away on the rookie deal.
I am. I don't want him because they could have had him last year and passed on him. We don't know their reasons but they did. The only thing different between last year's draft and now is his injury.

Besides, Minny needs to keep him. They drafted him to be their franchise QB. They got a bonus with Darnold playing well. JJ can sit and learn.

Quote from: LennG on December 31, 2024, 05:03:40 PMI have been saying this for a while now, why isn't anyone else even considering making a run at McCarthy? I think we all believe the Vikings are going to resign Darnold. If they don't and opt for JJ, good for them, but then they are basically starting over, but it would save them scads of money. I still think the Vikings would listen to a low #1 pick, what the Giants have, for McCarthy.
Why are people so down on him? He might be our best option since the two guys at the top don't seem to really impress most of us. JJ has had a year to sit and learn. He might fit in perfectly here in NY.
I wanted JJ last year. We could have picked him without moving. In fact, we should have.

There's no way the Vikings trade him now, simply because they're a well run franchise and we're not.

Jalen Milroe may now have played himself out of the first round after the bowl loss to Michigan.

I am totally rethinking if there are s a QB to draft or not.  Why waste a 3rd rounder on a real project if we can maybe get a good player at another position?  Giants may have to look at FA or a trade.

I totally agree.

Drafting a QB in the third round just to draft one is such a bad way of thinking in my opinion. Not because it's absolutely impossible to strike gold on a QB in the third round. We all know the examples of when that has worked and don't need anyone to recite them for us. The point is that the odds are extremely low, and more likely you're drafting someone who will at best be a journeyman backup type and may just as likely be out of the league in a few years. Meanwhile you're passing up a high third round pick on a position player, which is a very nice spot to draft a quality guard, linebacker, safety, RB, TE, etc.

But hey, if our braintrust really believes that a QB that NFL front offices have already passed on 100-odd times is going to be this year's Russell Wilson or Tom Brady, and we have a better read on that than anyone else, then go for it. I'd rather use that pick to grab a guard, linebacker, safety, or DT myself.

Next couple years are going to be stacked with Good QBs, no point in pressing this year.

How does a last place team in their division get a home schedule like what the Giants have next year?
Ouch

We're going to suck again next year either way, so we might as well suck as much as possible because next year's QB class looks a lot more promising than this one.

And hopefully start with a new GM and coach.

7 of the home games are pre-determined.  They are also getting the Niners as they have clinched last in the NFC West.

Agreed. And no there are no 1st round QBs in this draft. None

From looking at prior schedules we should be playing the NFC West and the AFC West plus the Bears in addition to the Niners. I don't know who the random 17th game is against.

Non division home games appear to be LAC, KC, GB and MN
