Has it really been that long that weve been on 17 week seasons? I swore it was a year or two. Time flies too much

Seems a lot of big stats are down this year. outside of chase and jefferson, only a couple receivers look like they will go over 1200 yards. sack leaders only at 14 (ugh to think what dex may have had if he didnt get hurt), and like you stated passing yards seem to be down. It's been a fairly "boring" year, but the running game also seems to be making a little bit of a comeback. It was bound to happen at some point. The game changes every 5-10 years.

The widespread use of the cover 2 defense has taken away the deep pass and teams  are for the most part  limited to short and intermediate passes. Mel Kiper has said that legendary deep passing QBs like Terry Bradshaw would not flourish in today's NFL. Kiper has called on the NFL to ban the defense.

Watching how Nabers did it this past weekend with screen passes, it certainly opened up opportunity for the longer passes. But, again, his brilliance was the difference more than the throws themselves.

I guess having players such as Nabers and Chase don't hurt the push for a 4,000 yard throwing QB. After all, he's (i.e. Nabers) contributed a quarter of that objective to his QBs this year.

But I sure was jealous of those teams with their big, bruising backs who loved to plow into secondaries to beat down opponents into submission in the second halves of games. Going back to our old pal Barkley, he's made a killing this year doing that and that formula has put him within arm's reach of Dickerson; however, you can always say Eric did it in 16 games while Barkley's 16 tally up just a little short. Save that one for the prognosticators!

Peace!

Who the hell is Montecrisco and why do we care what he thinks? I guess he didn't watch the NFL in the 80's or 90's. I'd say less than 5 QBs threw for over 4000 yards each year.

Yeah that scrub Josh Allen couldn't even throw 4000 this year! The product Bills fans had to endure must have been terrible.

Do a study on rushing yards to passing yards like I did a few years back. This season there could be 20 1000 yard rushers or close to it. We have two QBs close to 1000 yards.

I get the dig on Zone Coverage but Defenses have smaller faster players on the back seven and have become very complex in pre and post snap. It's not like they sit back there in Cover 2/3 all day.

Regarding stats - are the holding and pass interference penalties higher also?

I don't get some people's obsession over league leader stats like this.  Have seen it in other sports as well.  More QBs with 4000 yard passing = better product?  I remember the complaining ad nauseum a few years ago when nobody had 10o points one season in the NHL.  Some whiner posted about how they like to follow the league leaders and see high numbers.  I don't know, I just dont get it.

Give me a team that rushes it for 125 yards per game at a greater than 4.0 average yards per carry and a passing attack that throws for 225 yards per game at a greater than 11 yards per catch and I'll show you a good offense.

That guy could be Cam Ward if he could be coached into being more disciplined and cut down on the reckless turnovers. Every QB in this draft class has warts and will need different levels of development. 240 yards a game translates into those 4000 yards. The key as you said is that Run Game to balance the attack. The teams that got away from that, don't succeed at a high level without an Elite QB.

I can't stand the man so much I can't wait so be tortured watching him in the playoffs and, maybe this time, he'll make it through to the Big Show.

Just to torture me one last time!

Peace!

The NFL overall has become a watered down product.

Greedy Goodell couldn't leave well enough alone and as a result there are more injuries due to too many games, and acquiescing to the way the college game is played has left them with no identity and a diluted product on the field.

If it weren't for my allegiance to the Giants, I'm not sure that I would be an NFL fan these days. Growing up in Canton, Ohio makes my position sacrilege in the eyes of many In my hometown.

But I am ashamed at what this league has become.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I want to see starters play not backups so anything that reduces injuries I support.
