Jalen Milroe is possibly the most divisive QB in the 2025 Draft class, with a wide range of potential outcomes in the NFL, writes

Player comps for Milroe's potential career trajectory:

𝗨𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲: 𝗗𝗮𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁 (𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗺)

"This comp may not make sense when discussing the current version of Dak Prescott. However, early in his career, before his gruesome ankle injury, Prescott was sneakily one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL.

A fourth-round pick in 2016, Prescott burst onto the scene to become the Offensive Rookie of the Year and an eventual three-time Pro Bowler. He set the rookie record with a 104.9 passer rating and has multiple seasons with more than 4,000 passing yards or 30-plus passing touchdowns.

However, Prescott's early-career rushing ability makes this comparison interesting. In his first three NFL seasons, Prescott rushed for more than 900 yards and 18 touchdowns."

𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲: 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗼𝗻

This isn't a comparison about what Anthony Richardson could be, but rather about what he has been as an NFL quarterback so far.

Physically, the two aren't that similar. Richardson is a tank of a quarterback at 6-foot-4 and 244 pounds. However, they have similar play styles, with the ability to tuck and run and the arm talent to consistently push the ball vertically.

However, the same problems that Richardson is currently dealing with could also be major issues for Milroe at the NFL level. With the throwing windows tightening up and the talent difference no longer a huge advantage between his receivers and opposing defenses, Milroe's erratic ball placement could get him into real trouble.

Indianapolis Colts fans have had to live with the frustrating misses on short throws to watch Richardson make incredibleexplosive plays deep downfield. That seems almost too fitting for a path for Milroe as a pro given what we've seen from him on tape.

𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗲𝗻𝗱: 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

Trey Lance will go down as one of the biggest "what ifs" in NFL history. Scouts became enamored with the 6-foot-4, 224-pound quarterback out of North Dakota State due to his pristine record for the Bison, his football IQ, and his dual-threat ability.

Although Lance didn't have the arm talent coming out that Milroe has, scouts were fascinated by his physical tools and football intelligence. However, like Milroe, the tape showed a player who didn't always trust his pocket and could get too antsy when he felt pressure to try and escape to make an off-script play.

Once in the NFL, injuries derailed Lance's career. Although he got healthy, his inexperience as a true pocket passer hurt him in Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme. He was eventually traded to the Cowboys, where he has not attempted a pass in the last two seasons.

Despite the talent, Brock Purdy's emergence shuttered Lance's chances of being a starter again in San Francisco, and now he's waiting for another chance to prove himself.

That can be the life of an NFL quarterback on a short leash, and Milroe would be far from the first or last quarterback to experience something similar if his pro career got off to a slow start.

I am intrigued by Milroe as a prospect. Definitely boom or bust.
Ain't nothing to it but to do it!

I have very little interest in Milroe unless he falls a long, long way. He was brutal in multiple games this year and is probably the single biggest reason Bama had their worst season in ages this year. Thanks but no thanks.

@sooners56  sooners: IMO Giants' level of "intrigue" will depend on how fall he falls. Assuming they either can't draft (or don't want) one of the supposed high-1st-round QB's, I'm sure they'll pay attention... although I still have a bad taste in my mouth from their previous high first round prospect from Alabama. yuk
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

I have an interest in him as a project. I think he has a very big upside but a long way to get there. He is a very very smart kid. Multiple degrees. Does tons of volunteer work. His folks were military. So no worries there. Intriguing but raw.

I'd rather give a third round pick for Malik Willis. He's a better all around option than Milroe.

Milroe just ished the bed in a Bowl game against Michigan. His declaration for the draft is ill timed at best.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I like him as a project, but I think i'd hate taking him top 5. If we trade down and grab him later in the first im not terribly against that, or if he falls to round 2, sure. But he just sounds like a slightly better daniel jones with his accuracy issues. I just watched his tape vs vanderbuilt, idk. didnt come away that impressed. seems a little slow in the pocket, release looks sluggish, doesnt have a ton of zip on his throws, and appears to just attack the middle of the field mostly. he is super agile and quick while scrambling, but none of it really amounted to anything. nothing about this tape wowed me at all. maybe it was a bad game for him, but yeah... not top 5 material to me. I will say,, he's pretty good at creating and throwing on the run. Which he would probably be doing quite a bit here.

I must admit I was high on him early in the season but wow did he get inconsistent after that.  Now I think not.

jgrangers2

I view him how I viewed Cam Ward last year. If he's available as a mid-round project, I think he's a worthwhile gamble. I'm probably not using a 1st or even 2nd round pick on him though.

He did regress. I put some of that on Bama's dreadful coaching.

Trench

What I saw of him the last game - he does EXACTLY what Jones did. He locks on receivers!

I was high on him but his awareness is highly suspect

madbadger

This draft has five guys (Dart, McCord, Howard, Leonard and Milroe) I'd be interested in any where from the second to fifth round. I don't think any of them will become stars but all of them have more upside than DeVito and can become a solid starter or a good backup. If they want to go that route with Lock as the starter I would still want them to do whatever they can to get one of the bigger name quarterbacks in 2026.

He is raw. You have to see if his current flaws can be fixed. With Jones they never could. Other QBs have fixed flaws.

Philosophers

I am not sure he is as raw as folks think.  He had a full year under Saban and now one with DeBoer.  It's not like Alex Orji needing to be taught how to throw.

The change in coaches set him back. DeBoer did not do a good job this season. Maybe the coach will find his footing in the SEC but right now the hire looks bad.
