Would the Patriots been better off taking Schoen's trade offer?

The offer reportedly was:

the Giants' first-round pick (No. 6 overall), a first-rounder in 2025 and another pick this year

The Pats could have taken that pick, drafted Bo Nix and would have had another pick in last year's draft AND would have the 3rd and 4th pick (their own) in this year's draft.

In hindsight, would the Pats have been better served doing that deal rather than drafting Maye?

If we are operating in hindsight, the Bears would have taken Nix at #1 and he wouldn't be there for the Pats to take at 6.

Technically, the Bears would have drafted Daniels number one and the Commanders then would take Nix at 2  :D

How about Schoen drafting Nix and open the season with a QB battle between he and Jones?

Imagine the possibilities.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

The only downside is no Malik Nabers in that scenerio

I love Nabers, but he is a wide receiver. Despite his record-setting year, the team won 3 games. The value of a QB is substantially greater than and WR in terms of team success.

True, but at least we'd have a QB unafraid of throwing the ball downfield. Who knows, maybe Hyatt develops with Nix.

Andrew,

I went to Next Gen Stats to confirm.  Nix isn't much of a deep thrower.  Nix had a 7.4 intended air yards, compared to DJ's 7.3.

My eyes would've never believed that by watching both play.

Isn't that interesting?

Is there a stat for successful long passes?

Andrew,

Funny, you should ask that.  I literally posted just that, 2 days ago

Nix was widely considered a mid to late 1st rounder. So highly unlikely any team would have taken him in the top 10 at the time.

If the Pats said ok. - there would be no Nabers.  The WR group would be the worst in the NFL so it's unlikely any QB would be successful. Think about how bad this offense would be without Nabers.

You mean fifteen points per game bad?!
Wait! We achieved that WITH Malik!

Ted,

That is a fair point, it would have been much harder to develop a QB without a quality targets to throw to and what proved to be a mediocre (at best) pass protection

Oh wait, we drafted a WR in round 2 and traded up in round 3 to get another WR.

Another example of Joe Schoen getting little in the draft with high picks.

Maye showed some things even behind one of the worst OLs in the NFL, so I am going with no, they wouldn't be better off.
