I was thinking about the 2024 season. Its seems to me that most would say Patrick Mahomes is currently the best or #1 QB in the league right now. In my mind I would say Josh Allen is the 2nd best, but is Mahomes really # 1?

Looking at the attached stats, and depending how you view it, the landscape can be altered. Throw away post season. In your mind who is your 2nd best QB? Also if you had to rank your top 5 in order who would make your list. If you based it solely on passing yards then Burrow is your guy at #1, in fact Mahomes would be #7 and Allen would be #14 and would not make the top 5

Ask after this weekend, when much of that likely will be sorted out. lol
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

True Bob, but in the post I was asking the 2024 regular season as a whole

I see now. You can make a case for Lamar Jackson or Mahomes as 2nd-best to Josh Allen, who IMO was best. Bob

For me you have to look at yards and QB ratings

Patrick Mahomes

Josh Allen

Lamar Jackson

Joe Burrow

Jared Goff

Is my order, the funny thing is Mahomes has the lowest passer rating than the other four guys.

I know this is mostly focused on 2024, but when you accomplish what Mahomes has, and locked in the #1 seed again despite misisng Rice, Pacheco, and Holloywood for most of the season. There is no #2 or later for Mahomes. stats be damned

I think there's two different concepts: who is the best QB in the NFL and who has been the best QB in the NFL in 2024. I think the clear answer to the former is "Mahomes" and to the latter is "not Mahomes."

Mahomes has the top seed, and did it without two of his top WRs, and without his starting RB, all with Kelce in decline. He beat Pittsburgh with a banged up ankle.

I can see an argument for Josh Allen in 2024. As he had about as much to work with as Mahomes did and has better stats. The other guys had a plethora of elite talent to work with. Derrick Henry, Chase/Higgins, Amon Ra, Gibbs, Jameson, etc. Give Mahomes or Allen those types of guys and historic records would be shattered to bits.

The others I dont think are in the #1 conversation for me. Maybe if one of them bests Mahomes in the playoffs. Allen beat Mahomes earlier this year too.

We will see which cream rises to the top in the next few weeks.

I agree with a lot of what you said but let's not give Mahomes all the credit for that #1 seed.  He has a top defense and some wins came on things like:

A fumbled snap late in the 4th before a game winning FG attempt in chip shot range.

A blocked FG that was a chip shot.

Mahomes does have an ankle injury and he has grown as a QB in not trying to make the big play all the time.  I am not saying he isn't the best in the NFL, I just think this year he has had a lot of help with those 1 score wins.

Until Someone beats mahomes in the playoffs its a pointless question.

Lamar, Allen, and Goff are right there but until they do it in the postseason it doesn't matter.

I guess a better way to ask the question:

The Giants were given a special invite to the playoffs and could take any QB in the league to play for them in these playoffs.  Who would you take?

That's the way I viewed the question

Allen
Mahomes
Lamar.

I think there's pretty much a cigarette power between them.

If the topic is the 2024 season, the #1 QB is Lamar.

Yes, Mahomes led his team to the #1 seed without some key pieces. But Lamar's numbers this year were insane. While Allen had a great season - and maybe any other year an MVP season - Lamar led him in nearly every category.

The Ravens were my pick to win it all this year, and Lamar keeps playing like he has been, they'll very likely do just that.
