Look at the bright side...last year the Eagles were garbage at end of year and the coach was to be fired...and 2-3 yrs ago the Redskins were cellar dwellers - now look.

There is hope if we get a good QB

Only a matter of time before we own that record!

The flip side to this disappointment is the clear degree of parity in the NFC.

Get some key additions right and there's no reason why the Giants can't make some noise.

Of course, getting it right is the hard part.

I suppose that could be viewed with some sort of dismay, but it means little to me in the context of 58 years of Super Bowl era history. For instance, in the first 16 such years, the Giants finished the season with a winning record just three (3) times, made the POs just once and lost while averaging only a tad better than a 5-9 W-L during that stretch.

Then came Young/Parcells and 8 years of sudden sunshine and success, with 10+ wins the norm and, of course, not one but two Lombos for the display case. Then, as Tuna decided that he had to be allowed to buy the groceries, not just to cook them, he departed.

And so came what might be described as the Reeves/ Fassel era, 13 years of head fake success and false promise for which even a Super Bowl (loss) couldn't alter the mediocrity of its 102-104 W-L.

Then once again, things got a whole lot better with the Coughlin/ Eli era which brought us the 3rd and 4th Lombardis and a pretty nice W/L for the first 10 of 13 years.

And so now, with just one PO win in 3 appearances, and a with a W-L these past 9 seasons which is  close match to that of the first 16 years, do we not see a pattern? I'd prefer to think and to say NO, but...

I any case, I hope you see my point re the initial proposition.

Cheers!

I didn't count all the way back but since 2000, only 13 teams have made the AFC title game.

Jacksonville
Baltimore,
Denver
Colts
Steelers
Kansas
Bills
bengals
Chiefs
pats
Titans
Oakland
Jets

I have no doubt that this franchise is capable of breaking that record.

Why is everyone making 2011 sound like centuries ago?

You're all making me feel older than my oncoming bout of arthritis!

Geez! Be grateful the Giants have played in five (5) Conference Championships and are 5-0. Not many teams can lay claim to that!

With Giant Pride (and perhaps some delusion).

Peace!

It we weren't such an embarrassment for all but 2 of those seasons since 2011 maybe it wouldn't seem so long ago but it is ancient history now. All that goodwill is lost.

Exactly. It's the fact the Giants have been a bottom-3 franchise since 2011 that is the real issue.

Good morning, gents.

I feel the pain with you; however, Mr. Painter sums it up perfectly above in that the team, predominantly in the Super Bowl era (i.e. after Tim and Jack Mara passed away leaving Wellington and Timothy in charge), averaged about a .354 winning percentage save for the Parcells and Coughlin eras and, to a lesser extent, the Fassel and Reeves eras. Even Young's first few years were a mixed bag with Ray Perkins even though he was the right guy at the right time.

Now, in this "Wilderness Years, Part Deux," this upcoming draft will be this regime's last opportunity to get the firepower needed to put this team on the right track. How they decide to do that (e.g. QB, Hunter, fix the O-Line, fix the D-Line, fix the secondary) is anyone's guess, but their strategy had better guess correctly or it's tear it down, start with a new group and the Wilderness Years continue on.

I'll choose to embrace the warm memories until then, thank you very much!

Peace!
