From Garrett Podell of CBS Sports:

He was unable to contain his excitement when detailing his relationship with the Giants. New York head coach Brian Daboll went over to chat with Sanders during the Shrine Bowl's first practice on Saturday. Daboll, general manager Joe Schoen, assistant general manager Brandon Brown and assistant director of player personnel Dennis Hickey also made sure to catch up with Sanders in the lobby of the player hotel after practice Saturday afternoon as well.

"It was very exciting, and we have a great relationship," Sanders said of seeing and meeting with the Giants this week. "They definitely showed up plenty of times even to practice. Just seeing the logos and seeing the scouts, it's very exciting."

I know many don't want Sanders for various valid and legit reasons.

Me? My only requirement for them picking a QB, whoever it ends up being, is that they do their homework and they believe in him. If it's Sanders, so be it. They will have their guy and there will be no more defense from me. If they stink it up again, they need to go: Schoen and Daboll.

Doing their homework means being objective.  I fear they are not being objective but more like being infatuated.

That's one perspective. But a decision hasn't been made yet.

Whatever the choice at 3 is, they need to hit it out of the park.

Two guys on the hot seat heard their boss say:

"That's obviously the number one issue for us going into this offseason, is to find our quarterback of the future," Mara said. "Whether that be via the draft or acquiring a veteran, it's going to be up to them to decide, ultimately."

I find it challenging to believe that the two of them would pass on a QB who isn't the long-term answer if they believe drafting him could buy them a couple more years of gainful and well-paid employment

They didn't need Mara to say that. They have been trying to find a QB to replace Mara's QB from the day they were hired.

Getting a QB this offseason doesn't guarantee their jobs will be safe for another year. They need to produce results on the field.

Tim,

The issue I have is in Mara's choice of words, which included "quarterback of the future."   Had Mara simply said, "We need to find a starting quarterback," that would set up the idea of a bridge QB and taking a flyer on a day two pick and keeping an eye toward the 2026 draft, as well.   QB of the future puts pressure on drafting a QB at three, even if he is a reach or a gamble.

Only if Schoen takes it that way. My take is, they were pressured by Mara to keep Jones. They won't be pressured by Mara again.

If they get fired, it will be because they failed in their plan, not because Mara pressured them to do something they didn't want to do.

They have zero evidence that Mara pressured his management to keep Jones.  We do have 100% proof he pressured Schoen not to let Barkley walk on over the Eagles.  We know Schoen ignored that warning/advice, and how did that turn out?

As his stock drops I'm sure he's over the moon excited to see the Giants that hold pick 3. The Giants seem to be scouting Sanders and Dart but not really Ward which is interesting.

Jess,

I have seen a lot of news about the Giants spending tons of time with Sanders, what have you heard in terms of Dart?

Who is "they"?

Honestly, it's moot at this point. None of us have been privy to conversations that haven't been reported on. Just because there isn't a tweet, post, or article from a well-connected insider doesn't mean that a situation doesn't exist. Conversations happened away from the HK cameras. That much I'm sure of.

I agree. Throw a "crumb" into the pond and watch all the koi pop up to the surface with their mouths wide open and hoping to get the next one.

To take any of this at face value is being premature, to be kind. We are what, three months, until the draft? So much is going to happen between now and then which will render this article moot unless the Giants actually draft him. Is it possible ... of course! Is it in the bag? Your guess is as good as mine at this point.

But I do agree with the folks here that if, at a bare minimum, you don't complete the combines, you need to be questioned hard as to why not. You'd better come in for a scheduled workout then or there will be ??? against your name on the draft board.

Most importantly, the Giants MUST draft for VALUE. If the value is there, that's one thing. If it is laden with risk, put the ??? until they can be mitigated. If they cannot, and you have higher confidence value on the board, give the unmitigated risk candidates a big X and move on.

It's not hard. It's about building talent on a weak talented team. You can't screw around right now. If you put the cart in front of the horse, you'd better get yourself a bottle of aspirin because you're going to have a horse with a lot of headaches.

Do the RIGHT thing, Schoen and Daboll, and BUILD as much TALENT onto your roster that your draft picks allow you to. If that means making a deal to acquire draft capital for next year, so be it, but ADD TALENT and build the team up from it!

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

One of the best things about this site is the varied and legitimate points of view presented. Very few can be outright dismissed and many of us make well-reasoned and valid arguments. This one is right up there.

When it comes to the draft, I rely primarily on what I read from you knowledgeable folks. I also understand that even with all the valuable information presented here, the decision-makers do not consult this site (that I know of  ;)  ).

It will come down to how well they do their due diligence and make the picks with the least amount of perceivable risk.

Every reporter and insider.  While there has been plenty of criticism of Mara, not a single insider or reporter has ever suggested that John Mara has forced a decision on his GM or HC.  In fact, the opposite is what is reported, that Mara lets his people make their own decisions.
