I gotta just push back and say we just went too long with a failing QB which set us back. Saquon was not the same player with the Giants that he is today. Nowhere near the same type runner as Ed pointed out in previous thread.

Rich - I know you are excellent at this type stuff - if we went side by side (draft picks only) and compared Gettleman to Shoen - which GMs have had better drafts?...reason I ask is somewhere I saw there were like 16 former Giants playing this weekend in the championships

Maybe Gettleman was a good drafter but a poor free agent GM??

I see it quite differently... Jones was another talented pick who was screwed by not having good talent around him.

Quote from: todge on January 27, 2025, 05:05:48 PMI find it very interesting that many here are citing Barkley's failures as due to a lack of a supporting cast yet the same theory doesn't apply to Daniel Jones.

As to the other theory that the Jones signing was the biggest mistake in Franchise history -
Jones led the team to its' first Playoff appearance in a decade. Against a 14-3 Vikings team on the road, he threw for 300 yards and ran for 80 (Barkley ran for 37). Jones best receiver was a Practice Squad player and the usual awful offensive line.

What GM in his right mind would not resign the QB to a team friendly deal making Jones the 16th highest paid QB in the league? Instead you are asking the GM to start a total rebuild the next year with no viable QB options other than a Draft selection in the bottom of the 1st Round.

Sorry Ted but this story has left the barn and the door has closed on it.
A QB, any good QB can raise the level of play for the entire team. Sure he needs some support but we have seen countless QBs function, and function well with limited support and carry a team. When have you, or anyone seen a RB carry a team? A RB needs the QB to get the defense off the LOS and make them respect the pass. Jones never scared anyone with his arm.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

The commanders offensive talent is on par if not less than the Giants, the only difference being the Qb. Doesn't look like Jayden Daniels needs 49 pillars, or the entire offensive roster to prop him up.
