Would you sign him as a stop gap QB while drafting our future QB ? Would you prefer Marriotta, Fields,  Tanneyhill, Brissett or Flaco instead ?

MightyGiants

If the Giants draft a QB in round one, a veteran like Marriotta.   If the Giants plan on a gamble with a day two pick, I would like Fields

I'd take Winston in a heartbeat. 30 TDs and 30 interceptions. We're not winning next year anyway. Might as well be exciting to watch.

They're all kind of similar to be honest. Mediocre QBs, all with various warts and all of whom have tried and failed elsewhere, that you're not going anywhere with but can serve as stop-gaps who won't completely embarrass you until you figure out a more permanent option.

I would like a veteran who will be a good mentor to the draft pick

Mariota, Fields, or Brissett with the hopes we draft someone.

DaveBrown74

Not that I'm seriously suggesting him, but one veteran backup QB with a good reputation for mentorship is Tyrod Taylor.

The best mentors aren't necessarily the best QBs. Brett Favre, a great QB, famously ranted about how it wasn't his job to have to mentor Aaron Rodgers.

Of all the free agent QBs available, my hope is that it is Winston but for a different reason.  In my opinion, Winston has more ability than any other free agent QB.  He can make every throw and some that not many can make,  his arm is exceptional.  Unfortunately, his head is not.  He's prone to making mistakes often at key moments.  He is well liked by his teammates and has an outgoing personality that would work in the NY area.

This is my thought.  I'd like to see Daboll go to work on him and if he succeeds, he's our QB of the future.

Winston is probably the best fit in that he would clearly just be short term, would bring energy to the locker room, a good teammate to help a rookie, relatively affordable (leaving $ for other needs), physically suited to what Daboll wants and he'd bring entertainment - albeit sometimes it would be the NFL equivalent of rubbernecking a car-crash!
If you live your life as a pessimist you never really live your life at all.

Daboll was clearly very unhappy with Lock's turnovers.  Do you think Daboll would sign on for a turnover machine like Winston?

They're really not comparable players. Winston has about 10 times as much talent and physical ability.

Winston is 31, he can be a bridge or the QB of right now I suppose, not much future left there though.

I like the guy as a person, and he is entertaining in interviews, turnovers aside he is probably one of the best options, just not sure if he is a fit for Dabolls offense though. He doesn't offer too much with his feet.

I won't argue that point, but you seem to be ignoring the appearance that Daboll is not a coach who is very tolerant of turnovers.  He benched Lock for the inferior DeVito because he was so upset with the turnovers.

I'm all in- I think it would make for exciting football, even with the turnovers.  And after what we've been through, we deserve a little excitement in the stadium.
