I could see his being a player we go after in free agency. Played all over the line at Vanderbilt and he appears to be an ideal 5T in a 3 man front at nearly 290lb's despite having some success playing RDE in a 4 man front. Only 26 and built tall and long 6'5 1/8" with 35 1/4" arms, he has 16 career sacks despite missing most of his rookie season with an achilles injury he suffered in the lead up to the Senior Bowl.

He led the team in QB hits and pressures last year despite only 3 sacks but also was only in his first year as a full-time starter. He's not going to come cheap but we pulled a young player out of the Colts a few years back with great success and this seems like a guy we could target this time around, especially given he's a Brooklyn kid and might want to return closer to home.

"He's developed really well," Ballard said. "I know statistically it might not look like that, but I know the rest of the league notices it. He's becoming exactly what we thought he would become. He's still young, he's still – I think it's still in front of Dayo, and I like where he's headed. We'll see how free agency works out, but yeah it does. Happy for him, because I think he's going to garner some attention."

Thoughts?

The first thing I look at is the Colt's effective cap space.  With a hair over $30 million, he only becomes available if the Colts decide to move on from him (or his agent things he could get much more on the open market).

I think the real key is, can he play the 3 tech in pass rush downs.  If he can do that, I think he would be worth looking at.

Here are his PFF grades

It really depends on his price, for me.  If we can get him at a reasonable rate, then yes.  Otherwise, I would rather target a true 3-tech.  For Edge, I would prefer an aging vet, who would be cheaper, to add to the edge rotation.

I'd want him AND a 3T or another guy with the versatility to play both 3T/5T. We need to have quality depth, not just guys on the roster who aren't  capable of filling in without a major drop off. Remember LY in the pre-week 1 pod I said we had one DL (Dexter), one backup (RNR) who was starting and a bunch of guys who shouldn't be on a roster let alone counted on to play meaningful  stats? I want to avoid that scenario ever happening again!

Ceri,

The strengths of this draft are D-line and running back (you can maybe throw in TEs and DBs).   I want the Giants to draft a D-lineman on day two as I see value meeting need.  I wouldn't even by upset if they doubled up with another D-lineman on day 3.  The Giants need to start playing to the strengths of the drafts.
